Bullpups and hunting.

Had a revelation of sort the other day in the woods hunting. I own an alpha wolf and a wildcat bt. I love shooting bullpups but the revelation for me was they kind of suck carrying in the woods. I would much rather carry a full length rifle. I think the shortness of the bullpup is a shortcoming in the carry department. Am I crazy ?? I don’t find it comfortable carrying with the stock shoved in my armpit and gun resting over my forearm. The shortness of the gun makes it not fit. To rest it over your shoulder holding the stock in your hang just doesn’t feel as good as a long gun carried that way. Too short…. Just don’t love the AW for that situation…it’s heavy. The best way for me to carry the wildcat is just grabbing it by one of the cut outs in the stock and letting it hang down. In my mind the short gun should be better, more maneuverable. Maybe it’s just because I was brought up as a kid always using a full length rifle carrying it in one of the two ways described. Anyone else just prefer a regular rifle for carrying through the woods ?

This may seem unsafe for ya, but I carry mine with the muzzle pointed upwards, and I hold on to the back of the pistol grip. It's not uncomfortable. It's easy to carry even if it is a heavy gun.

I had to chuckle when I saw these pics. This is almost exactly how we carried our Sheridans and Crosman 760’s through the neighborhood on our way to different woodlots. Didn’t want to spook any old timers. Yes, we were even mindful of that back in the 70’s and early 80’s.

Haha, i can't blame you for being careful. Nowadays, you'll have the Karens call yhe cops on you back then you'd get shot.

But yeah, that's pretty much why I carry them this way, along with it's nicer to carry bullpus like this, especially shorter ones, because they hide in your armpit.

I have straps on all my bullpups when I hunt. Something always snagging or stabbing. Can’t tell you how many times I found my cocking lever hanging open. PCP hunting is not firearm hunting. Weird little things we must adapt to.
Yeah this was my next step. Figure the best way to attach some sort of sling to my WC

All you can do is experiment. But the reality of it all is we in PCP land have to face some facts. A bullpup was designed for combat and clearing buildings and such. So if you want to walk around all day in the woods like there might be a terrorist hiding behind every tree, you’ll be fine. Adopting a BP for hunting/hiking takes some adjustments from a nice short traditional rifle.

Every squirrel season I take my 36” Zbroia traditional airgun hunting. It is so nice. But I don’t have the firepower I have with my pups. If technology gets us there some day I promise you, all my pups are headed down the road.

They can follow the trail to my place!

When walking this is how I carry mine. Carrying a rifle without a sling is like carrying a pistol without a holster.

I put sling swivel studs on the side of my Hatsan FlashPup's wood stock. Made it carry well & didn't interfere with bench rests or bags.It laid flat against my back or chest.

I do the exact same thing with the hole in the stock, except i turn the gun the other way. I'm obsessive about not touching the scope, overly so.

That's the opposite of what I do just about every chance I get, I grab the gun by the scope. It's never been an issue for me.
