N/A Bye Bye Scopes!

When I was a young man, (I’ll be 69 soon) a half century ago, my vision was 20/10 in each eye. I recently had Cataract surgery. I opted for a lens called a LAL. Light Adjustable Lens. Pricey devils. 8K to be exact. My vision in my dominant eye (left) is now 20/15. My right eye lens was adjusted for reading and is 20/20. I can see the fiber in the paper WITHOUT GLASSES! I’ve been scoping guns because I just couldn’t see the front sight clearly any longer. Not now. Another reason to keep the iron sights option open when deciding on a particular model. These three pumpers went from this-to-this today. And more to come!

If tou dont know what to due with thw scopes throw them in a box and send them my way lol they do look better without scopes though. With my eyes i need the scopes i dont think i could manage open sights anymore

I can see the front sight with 1x diopter reading glasses as long as the target isn’t to far away 10 yards max. So most of my guns are either scoped or a reflex sight.

Timing is key

That's great Dan! Glad to see you healed up nicely. I can use a peep, not perfectly, but can use it. Forget the notch sights. I hope to get my eyes fixed one day.

I just picked up a springer I plan on using the iron sights exclusively with. It’s been a while, but I like the simplicity, and lack of extra weight.

Fantastic! I'd love to have my younger eyesight back - or even "just" 20/20. That's great news all 'round. I supposed I'd regret getting rid of some prime PB guns that would have been wrong to scope though...

I cannot see the iron sights without this thing on my tri-focal eye glasses (top left corner of my right dominant eye).

Funny I see better in a scope without my glasses. The HW 35 is set up great for iron sights.

That's great. My wife and I both had cataract surgery about 3 years ago. The VA paid for mine and insurance for hers. I was nearsighted, now more farsighted, which I like. My wife's vision did not really change, she still uses the same pair of glasses from about ten years ago, progressive lenses, but for reading. Although my visioin was blurry at distance I could use open sights, when using my glasses, now I can use them diopter or leaf type rear with or without glasses, Been wearing glasses for about 65 years now, so am just used to them. We both got the standard lens implants during the surgery, figuring I could buy a lot of glasses for the $5000-8000 each for the remainder of our lives with plenty left over.

I had also had another condition develop in each eye, about a year ago, called detached viterous humour , where the sac that holds the gel in the eye tore loose from two of the three attachment points. Never felt a thing, but woke up one morning and it was like looking through a piece of broken glass, where the broken edges seem to swirl. That stopped and now about 15 years later the only downside is that I have thousands of floaters, which are sometimes annoying under some light conditions.

I am North of 85 & had cataract surgery this June through the VA. I still need glasses for distance. There is no way that I could shoot MOA groups at 25 or 50 yards without using a scope. I did qualify expert with the M1 about 100 years ago when I was in the Marines and of course that was with peep sights. Be interesting to try that again! I now have scopes on all of my weapons. Took a nice doe at 35 yards with my Nikon scope on the crossbow.

I had RLE done on my right eye a few years ago. It made a night and day difference. You're right about it being expensive though and I see halos when it's dark out and I see light in my peripheral vision.
