Call fish and game and talk to the game warden in your area. He's the one who'll be writing the ticket..

Call your states “Dept. of Natural Resources” or whatever it is called in your state. They’re the ones who will arrest you or write the tickets.

Go right to the source as others have mentioned. Meaning the OR Fish and Wildlife website. Third party websites may have outdated or incorrect info and then it is on YOU if you violate the law because you acted on their bad/outdated info. That is never an acceptable defense when YOU are the one in front of a judge.
And most likely there is no distinction between hunting in a 1000 acre wood or in your backyard. The rules are often the same. Hunting is hunting. However, your backyard may have some additional rules if there are neighboring houses within a certain distance. But this type of backyard "hunting" can also be a benefit since you may be able to legally change the name of what you are doing...i.e., "hunting" can become "pest control" and the rules will often become more relaxed if you are engaging in "pest control" under permits rather than hunting.

Again, look at the rules in your state. You can't just say, 'Hey, I'm doing pest control, and can do as I please.', as every state has laws as to what you can do while doing pest control. For instance, you can pest control fur beards in my state if they are causing damage, but you can't harvest the pelt.

A person cannot legally “hunt” with an air gun in Washington state either. It comes down to the definition of a “firearm “ and in Washington an air gun is not a firearm.
Secondly individual cities can have their own regulations. For example. The city of Tacoma Wa. Does not allow shooting of pellet/bb guns in the city. That means the people who live in Tacoma cannot (legally) shoot airguns in their own back yard.
