CAN I SHOOT SLUGS ACCURATELY OUT OF THE FX STX PELLET LINER A?

I read that a lot, and lots of thing have changed in the last donno 6 months...

6 months + ago test on slugs and pellet liner A on stx liners, where a NONO, but just a few slugs worked ok on pellet liners. You can check some tests here: https://www.airgunnation.com/topic/test-results-after-600-slugs-shooted-022-cal-600-mm-slug-liner-on-my-x/

As today, things have changed, better designs, price drop and the 2 big manufacturers of pellets are making slugs, NSA making a huge range of slugs, FX making the Hybrids, H&N & soon JSB will be in the scene. So to the question: CAN I SHOOT SLUGS ACCURATELY OUT OF THE STX PELLET LINER A?: YES YOU CAN (TODAY!)

I personally tested a few slugs, out of a 700mm STX pellet liner A over my impact black mamba, that one has no other modification that elongated brass transfer port and pellet probe, that gives me about 50 fps more, so basically is a stock impact, nothing special about it. I use it for hunting shooting 18.2gn JSB @ 980fps. I took the 3 lighters NSA slugs, the 17.5 gn, the 20.2gn and 23gn in .217 (the 23gn was .218), put them on the mag and shoot, I DID NOT made any special tuning at all and the results were great. I also Have read good results on 25gn slugs H&N (not tested on pellet liner) and for sure with the FX HYBRIDS on STX PELLET LINERS.

So, IME you can shoot slugs out of STX Pellet liners if you can tune your FX (should work with any STX Pellet Liner A) to shoot 18.2 gn @ 980 fps, try light slugs

TEST MADE on .22 cal and STX Pellet liner A

17.5 gn .217 slugs will go at about the same speed than 18.2 pellet, 980 fps: https://www.instagram.com/p/B7LqhVvBNne/

20.2 gn .217 slugs will go at about 910 fps: https://www.instagram.com/p/B7Lso7pBODW/

23 gn .218 slugs will go about 850 fps: https://www.instagram.com/p/B6BpPtEBI4V/

I shoot pigeons with that setup at distances from 40m to 120m, and they are very accurate, and I am thinking in saying bye bye to pellets considering this. (except for benchrest since there is no option)

Hope that helps for the ones looking to shoot slugs and do not want to get a slug liner (slug liner shoot all slugs good, specially heavies), donno about other barrels (LW, TJ, CZ) but I think they should be ok too.

If you want I can test .25 and .30 too, let me know in the comments

Sure you can shoot slugs out of a pellet liner A or any barrel for that matters. The real question should be. Can you shoot it accurately. Cause every type of barrel is made differently. So to find out if it can shoot it accurately is to try it yourself.

Not in FX STX Pellet liners A, they supposed NOT to be differently due the construction method fx have on liners, other barrels probably. Good point about accuracy, I edit the title. And totally agree, best way to be sure is self testing! ;), still I felt sharing my results, maybe it can help others.

Hey Edosan,

I believe you and I were probably on the same experiment close to about a year ago. And I too came to the conclusion then that indeed you can shoot slugs from pellet liners. I've shoot up to 26 grains at .217 successfully. I've settled for 22.5 grains in the end during that time. Because of the swage bullet shape, I believe that the pellet liners choke size may be best. May be even better with that the slug liners twist rate and pellet liner chike size.

But great work to you on all the dedicated testing.

Thats an interesting question you are asking. When I first got my new slug liner I had the opposite question. I was wondering can I shoot pellets out of my slug liner, as I didnt want to swap liners all the time. Well, I tested it and found that JSB 18 grain pellets grouped as good or better thru my slug liner then they did through my pellet liner. Once I learned that I never again swapped my slug liner for my pellet liner

That was until I tried the new FX hybrids. They clearly shoot better in the pellet liner, which sucks for me.

Hey Bigg, yeah before we found a few slugs that work on pellet liner, just a few. Today we have several, great news! and that allowed users not to have the need to upgrade their guns with power mods, stock airguns from fx with stx pellet liners are fine for some slugs. I mainly shoot heavy slugs, but this weekend I went hunting with those light ones on an impact without heavy mods and man, I was impressed. Laser and all went down.

As today I thing light slugs are good for pellet liner, and heavy ones for SlugLiner, for example in .22 from 17gn up to 25gn are ok in the pellet liner over that, you will need power mods and a slugliner.

Good times for slugs

Hi Hisson, I have shoot all pellets in slugliner .22 the only one that is not good is the beast 33.9gn, all all others are good with the right tuning. Hybrids are a bit light, make sense those work ok in pellet liners. Good info!

In regards to the 33.9gn, I had the same outcome as you. I totally agree with the conclusion of light slugs/pellet liner and heavy slugs/slug liner with regards to the mentioned weights. Currently I shoot 25.39 jsb at 980ish at 130bar. HST Max. 138bar I shoot 32gn slugs at 911ish.

This has definitely been a fun ride so far.
