"Can we stop the Hate?" -Nate @ Airgun Channel

Hey guys. There was an issue with some overpriced pellets I had on AGN last week. Alot of people, who obviously don't like me, have been using this as an excuse to bring my morality and character, not to mention the quality or success/demise of my airgun channel into question. I'm facing degrading comments in my own threads, as well as whole theads dedicated to talking negitavely about my character.

I'm just wondering if we can shut this down now.

Is this a site where we talk about airguns? or we talk about people? My videos have always been about the guns, never about me.

Let's just talk about guns here on AGN. OK??

I don’t know about “the hate.” What I’ve read across multiple posts appears to be a group of members who’ve been holding back their opinions, frustrations, and annoyances concerning your actions and practices and ganging up on you after one or two people expressed their opinions.

Young man, we can’t control what others do and everyone isn’t going to like you or everything that you do. If you want to sell high priced items here and it isn’t in violation of the rules of this platform then I can only assume that it’s what you’re going to do. Many merchants do this everyday. If people don’t want to buy your stuff then I guess we will continue to see your posts in the classifieds until you get tired of posting things that aren’t selling. If someone sees the value in what you have to offer and pays an agreed upon price that’s between the two of you. Some seem to take offense to how you operate between AGN and YouTube. An example I’ve seen is members accusing you of asking for and taking advice from AGN members, making a seemingly quick YouTube video, then posting your high priced items for sale on AGN after you used them briefly to create Youtube content. AGN members don’t have to spend a dime with you. They also don’t have to advise you in response to your questions. A reply isn’t always necessary in this sort of situation. If you aren’t losing viewers or aren’t concerned about losing a few viewers, why go through all the trouble to respond to all of the recent comments? If you are and can see room to improve upon where you were wrong, own up to it and apply what you’ve learned to strengthen your brand. I see no shame in being accountable other than seeing your errors in hindsight and feeling a little embarrassed. That’s normal. If people are communicating that you have offended them and you value their contributions to our community and your development as an aspiring influencer and air gunner, you may want to discuss your issues with them via phone or private messages to work through them if possible.

Also consider humbling yourself a little. This site seems to have a substantial amount of seniors and retirees just looking to enjoy sharing their passion and a hobby with like minded people. Many of these men people have worked hard the majority of their lives and have children your age. I’m confident many don’t care about views or YouTube. They were here long before it was a thing. I know you didn’t ask, but hopefully something I said may prove useful to you.

Honesty, if a sincere apology was given early on, none of this would be a thing. The constant arrogance from your replies is what fueled the snowball effect of all this anger and frustration on your behalf. Like I said in the other thread, thinking you’re gods gift to the airguning world is not making you friends anywhere!

We have a common interest and, personalities aside, I think most people maintain a degree of respect for their fellow members. After being here for a while you start to feel like you know people and that you can trust them to treat you differently than they would a total stranger on Ebay. If someone attempts to take advantage or cheat a fellow member, it feels personal. It appears that the respect is not mutual and they have broken a trust; that is why you were called out.

From the first Airgun Channel video I ever watched I was put off by the overuse of glowing adjectives ("this is the BEST PCP EVER!"), and lack of objectivity. Same is true of the (related) FS ads.

Nevertheless, I still (occasionally) view an AGC video or ad to see if there has been any evolution. The question continues to be answered with just a short glance (at either). The term 'oversell' comes to mind; a sure deal-killer from the get-go.

Hey, alot of good advice here. There are definately alot of guys here that are older, more mature, and more experienced (at life) than me. ..so I appreciate the advice and guidance of those members. Thank you!

I will respond to one comment though:

An example I’ve seen is members accusing you of asking for and taking advice from AGN members, making a seemingly quick YouTube video, then posting your high priced items for sale on AGN after you used them briefly to create Youtube content

...uh, yeah...that's exactly what I do. AGN is an awesome rescourse. so of course, I go on here, ask a technical question, get the right answer in minutes flat, and crank out a video, hopefully once a week.

My M3 Guide video this week: I didn't know alot of that stuff. On Monday and Tuesday I asked AGN and FX questions all day. By Wed I understood it all, then I made a video explaining it in an easy to understand way (for dummies like me).

...and the guns I sell. When a gun I review is brand new. I most likely paid full retail price for the gun. Then I shoot literaly under 100 rounds through it...so yeah, I want $1699 for a Cricket 2 that sells for $1849. I only touched the gun for 30 minutes. although, that gun I got free.

but that's exactly how my channel works. I bought most these guns, then resold them here. They have all sold pretty fast. I defiantly don't have them anymore!

again, thanks for all the great advice! -Nate

Even when you’re trying to do damage control, you still don’t come across quite right. You’ll be fine, there are plenty of guys like nhrasvt out there that will still hang on your every word. Just let it go. Most people forget things very quickly nowadays because we are so easily distracted. I think the sooner you come to terms with the fact that your channel and whatever knowledge you have of Airguns is meaningless to some of us, the better off you’ll be. Just be one of the guys. A pellet gun celebrity is a nobody when you look at the big picture.

I still don’t understand how you think you can have the best channel in airgunning, and don’t know ANYTHING about the guns you review. Not only that, but you use it for less than half hour then think you can review it in enough detail to be worth while????

Take a look at AEAC. Steve spends WEEKS, sometimes MONTHS testing the guns he reviews before making a video, THEN comes out with follow up videos about tuning. He is thorough in his testing, and thorough in his videos.

THEN HE GIVES THEM AWAY!!!!!

maybe if you did some sort of giveaway from time to time, you wouldn’t come across as an arrogant money hungry YouTuber that thinks it’s ok to rip off his fellow airgun enthusiasts after getting their help on this very forum!!!

Unsubscribe..and the problem goes away....not a real evaluation of anything anyway..

This being the United States of America (still), Capitalism is still legal. Matter of fact, still admirable.

Furthermore, 'profit' is NOT a four-letter word; and no reason for shame. Even for airgun reviewers, and, believe it or not, YouTubers.

Consumers critical of honest business and/or profit are not victims OF Capitalism; rather, they're ignorant ABOUT Capitalism. Was it not for Capitalism and profit, we might as well all be living in the United States of Venezuela.

That said, it is only (and always) wise to beware pushers and snake-oil salesmen. Young people may need to Google those terms, but suffice to say they strongly relate to a term integral to my previous post- 'OVER-sell'.

More power to those who've found a way to successfully monetize airgun reviews. Hopefully their fate(s) still rest in the hands of those who 'buy it'... and don't.

I don't have a horse in this race, nor have I or will reply in the thread/s re prices.

I will say this;

- I really enjoy your youtube channel. The first video I saw with the little metal frog alien and you doing the silly voice, I thought, "this guy is actually insane! He's talking to himself and recording it and playing it back to hundreds (thousands? I have no idea) THIS is my kind of guy! " lol Blowing up soda cans and lollipos,. , etc. It's all very enjoyable to watch. You are putting the fun back into shooting.

- I've never had issue with the prices you are asking for your review guns.

- Here's the stickler,. I've read at least a dozen threads on this forum since the quarantine shortage began discussing predatory pricing practices on pellets. eBay, Amazon etc. appears to be well populated with individuals ready to take full advantage and capitalize. We've also seen the guys who have "ruined" it for all of AGN by abusing the AGNATION code on Crosman site. You are not being singled out exclusively, this is a weekly topic. We can say all we want this is how things go in capitalism, but when it ruins things for the entire AGN forum, well,. this went from just being a salesperson, to a spoilsport that fecked things up for ll of us. I am not accusing of being one of the oens that ruined the AGNATION code,. but I think it would be naive to think that people aren't going to associate any predatory pellet pricing or would be "racketerers" with the ones that made such a sad mess for all of us.

- I personally don't hold a grudge against people looking for a way to turn a buck in a competitive environment, but given that same environment, I think anyone engaging in such practices better be damn ready for critique on a public forum. Not everyone has the location, time etc. to be the one to clear out the Walmart shelf, or grab all the inventory the moment it's up on Crosman's site with an abused 20% discount code. I can understand fully their distaste for those that are looking to capitalize on these situations.

Nate, your in a tricky situation. Through your channel, you've made a little bit of a celebrity of yourself. Look at how the world treats it's celebrities. Some won't care what you do and will remain loyal dedicated. Some on the other than will look for any flaw and hate you for it. Most will just take you at face value, and fall into neither extreme, but it's the ones in that 2nd category that are going to make the most noise. If you don't want to be called out for selling $7.00 cans of pellets for $20.00, your going to have stop doing that. Your too high profile for it to be glossed over. Part of the burden of success.

Take care.

I wouldn't think anyone on this forum actually hates you Nate, but I don't think anyone one day older than you takes you or your "reviews" seriously. You have declared yourself an expert, but any even slightly experienced airgunner viewing your youtube content will immediately know otherwise.

Now for a little tough love: purchasing or for that matter even owning a lot of airguns does not make you an airgun expert. Chew on that for as long as your attention span will allow.

Don't take this as hate, just calling it as I see it. And as another forum member suggested, a little humility, and INTEGRITY on your part would go a long way in alleviating what you perceive as hate. Chew on that as well.

Food for thought.

PeaceOut

Vines

EDIT: I guess I am an old fart, as I don't understand how anyone could enjoy your reviews, just as I didn't and still don't understand forum members defending a known thief, O'Doyle.

Who cares if you get a gun for free and want to sell it at full retail or a little under? I guess some apparently do lol. I for one don't care if someone wants to make money on a used item. They can look elsewhere for a better price or don't buy at all. I don't see a problem with you coming on AGN to ask questions about a product you're doing a review on. Just be tactful. I agree, AGN is a great resource and you can get fast responses.

What I don't really pay attention to or don't care about is how many views a YouTuber gets or who has the best YouTube channel. When I'm interested in a product, I'm just looking for useful information and just want to be entertained. All the "behind the scenes" of being a YouTuber just goes over my head. BTW, Ezana4CE gave some great advice.

There is definitely too much criticism on this site by small minded people who judge other's morality/character. But, I still really like the the site, always come back, and just skip the threads where old folks point judging fingers at others (and I'm not a spring chicken).

Same with Nate's videos or posts, I don't like 'all' of them but I REALLY appreciate his contributions.

Ha, I guess I'm now judging others for judging other - I'd better stop here.
