HW/Weihrauch Can you shoot a .22 out of a .177.

Lol, apparently. Buddy and I were shooting side by side indoors at the commercial range we use. This was shortly after I got the Diana 54 in .22. I got up and he came over to shoot it. We had been comparing different pellets handing them back and forth. He went back to his bench and proceeded to load his HW97/.177. He started complaining about the pellet being hard to load. Now even though this guy is in his early 60s he is martial arts and self defense expert who recently closed his business although he still does some private training for some high level people in these sports. He is the guy who looks like he will turn and run but can kill or maim you and your 2 tough friends with minimum effort . He got it started, shaking his head. At the shot, my eyes got big, just like his. We looked at each other laughing, he said , I think I just shot your pellet out of my gun. We shoot the pellet guns in an archery range above a centerfire range on the first floor under us. The crack was so sharp and loud someone came upstairs to ask what we shot. Shounded like a .22 magnum or a 17hmr.

There's no way he pushed a 22 in a 177 bore. Even if he could it'd never come out of the barrel when fired. The detonation or loud crack was from dry firing the gun. It will sound like a 22LR. It's not good for the spring and it often ruptures a factory Weihrauch piston seal in one occurrence. He simply forgot to load it or the pellet fell out of the breech when closing the lever. The latter is a common occurrence with loose fitting pellets if you close the gun in a vertical position. He may be looking at a new piston seal and spring if he does that again if he isn't already. Unfortunately I know this from experience. It happens to everyone eventually.

@JEFFPPC do you know anyone in the Altoona area who goes hunting w their airguns? Im semi new to it and have a couple springers and PCPs, but dont know anyone else around. Are there any local pages or groups/forums to look into? Thanks!
I don't know anyone hunting with them other than backyard squirrels. The 4th Sat of each month at 9am we have a 20 meter paper shiloutte match, 40 shots at Double Tap Indoor Range in Altoona. Come join us.This is off a bench, springers only 177 or .22. I actually quit advertising the shoots on here because due to multiple folks replying they would attend, no one off this forum ever showed up. All talk, no action. We have had as many as 13 shooters. There is a group of us that shoot there almost every day. The matches are 10.00 with half the money payed back. For 15.00 per month you can shoot 6 days a week all you want. Come join us this Saturday, we have some really good shooters.
