I remember reading somewhere that you can use nitrogen in airguns. I think the person said they rent a welding tank filled with it at a welding supply station and it works fine and is much cheaper than just compressed air. Does anyone have any information about this?

You can use it just need the proper regulators and fittings for home use
I have used it in my Sumatra and it worked fine.
The range I go to has a tank and charges a few dollars for a fill

No way cheaper.. It is all I ever use.. Need a 6000 psi nitrogen fitting valve assembly $ 200- 300. Then a tank lease and fill.. Mine cost 100 for tank lease and 200 for fill. I do shoot a lot and only fill once a year. Check out your local welding gas supply place and get the cost as they vary widely. No moisture is a great benefit to nitrogen.

Prices vary widely by location. I pay $50 a year lease and $70 for fill (I shoot every day and have yet to fill my 6K N2 tank I got in February). $100 refundable deposit on the bottle. Since Air is mostly Nitrogen there is little difference in shooting characteristics. I ONLY use N2 because it is ALWAYS moisture free. You also do not NEED a regulator! I use a fill adapter from Joe Brancato with no issues at all. I do HAVE a regulator so I can tether to the bottle for long shooting sessions without pressure drop.

I was tempted with the possibility of using purer dry nitrogen as an ideal power source. Unfortunately I could not find a local supplier in the Kalamazoo, MI area who would provide the tank and fill to a residential customer.

I saved money by building my adapter. Parts were under $75 and easy to put together. I rent a 6000 psi tank for $8 per month and $44 for exchange (fill-ups). I've never had to refill my tank yet because I also use a paintball shop to fill my CF tanks. Since the paintball shop is close and only charge $1.50 per 1000 psi I can usually get 2 large carbon fiber tanks filled for $3-4. I use the nitrogen for when the paintball shop is low on air are too busy to get to me.

Remember, air is 78% nitrogen anyway. Also, a cylinder of nitrogen has very low moisture content. You won't see any performance difference.

I would have gone with Nitrogen in a heartbeat if they filled the tanks right there. They just give you a new bottle and charge you for a full one, even though you're returning a bottle that's half full. That's what all the supply houses do around here.

When I checked locally the high pressure regulator alone was roughly 500 bucks.
They do not lease tanks either only sell them, so at least what I could not use down to 2,000 in my Disco would still be there when they went to refill my tank so I would not lose it.

Catcus jack. I also fill from a 6000 psi nitrogen tank. Cost of rental varies from state to state. You should always use a 6000 PSI regulator for safety. Cost pushes 470.00 or so. And it's always a good thing to keep moisture out of a pressure vessel.(your guns air tank).

I wouldn't fill a gun straight from a nitrogen tank. I fill CF bottles and fill the gun from the bottles. I don't need a regulator I just open air the valve slowly and fill the bottle. I've never experienced a spike of full air and overfilled a bottle.

I fill guns and tanks both. The smaller the reservoir the greater the need for caution but it is completely doable without regulation. Some female foster fittings have a restrictor in them which greatly enhances large volume high pressure source usability for gun filling. Daystate ships them with its Regal XL and other guns I am sure. They can be purchased from Best-Fittings in the UK and on E-bay from the same vendor.

I use the 6000 psi nitrogen. Tons of air. I love it! I wouldn't fill a gun right from that without a regulator. I do what Black Diesel does. Fill my CF tank from the 6000 psi tank without a regulator no problem. Then fill my gun from my CF tank.

Same here, works great. I've never tried to fill a gun directly but I would imagine it would be perfectly safe filling a Cricket.
