Cant deside on what caliber

Hi All



Thinking about a FX Dreamline but cant deside on what caliber to get i have a 22 caliber pcp already so wanting to go bigger. So tell me whould u go with 25 or 30 cal and why....

in a nutshell i would say .25 for <120yd shooting and the .30 for +120yds. jmo Both are great options and im sure you will enjoy both. if you care about cost and you shoot a lot i would probably go with .25

I use .25. Better shot count, more variety, and have some pellets with a better BC than some of the lighter .30 pellets.

My only question is whether the Dreamline guns have adequate power for .30 cal. Without add-ons or modifications.

FX doesn't show muzzle velocity for the .30 on their web site last time I looked ("TBA"). Utah Airguns shows a 'Tuned Velocity' of 820-840 fps using the 44.75's. And, for example, FX shows the Crown Mk II in .30 cal with a muzzle velocity of 870 fps (assuming the 44.75 as the calculated muzzle energy (75) works out with that pellet at that muzzle velocity).

My FX Boss shoots the same JSB pellet at 873 fps, while my Uragan King shoots it at 935 fps, both guns un-adjusted from their factory tune.

Perhaps actual owners of Dreamline .30 cal guns will chime in, but from the numbers it seems like it might be under-powered for .30 cal (or at least not high power). But also, perhaps this is something which might be easily and inexpensively addressed with the addition of a simple FX power plenum?

It all depends on yours needs. What are you looking to get out of it plinking, competitive shooting, hunting any more info would help narrow it down for you. Also not sure how modified it is but this is a video Ernest recently did on the dreamline .30

Want to hunt with it ground hogs mostly but i have a few friend with pcp rifle and they are target shooting and stuff with them so i would like to join my gauntlet dose ok but is only 22cal and wanting to move up even know i havent tride my gauntlet sence i built the new chassis for it that might help it perform (posted pics of my chasses on the form) just really wanting somthing a little higher end would love to have an impact just not enough cash to do so.

If going mostly for ground hogs. A .25 or .22 would suffice. It all depends on what ranges you’re looking to shoot these ground hogs at...

You might want to check the rules on some of the ranges they visit. Some airgun specific ranges are 177 and 22 only or 177/22/25 only because of the targets/backstops. I would think a 30 cal would get mighty expensive after a couple hours of shooting paper also... I only mention this because of your last statement. 30 cal jsb are more than double the price of 25s.

So with that the impact out of reach you can look at the dream series, the crown and the wildcat, depending on your taste all would be good options. Crown will give you the traditional style rifle and a bottle so a better shot count. The dreamline now has the option for a bottle as well carbon finer and steel so again that's another option. As for caliber the fx guns can be tuned and tweaked and get some serious accuracy. A .25 if shooting pellets on average you can get about 300 for $18, and the .30 is 150 for $18 these are the top 2 calibers I have seen target shooters use for the reasons they can buck the wind better. I had the .25 and now getting a .30 kit put on. Plenty of guys on here to help you out.

30 would be too expensive for me to plunk with. My 25 impact will do any critter in my area. I've done a few that I won't talk about. Shot placement you know. Have a 22 wildcat but once I went 25 I couldn't go back.

Personal preference here 22. There is so much variety in both pellet and slugs, both wieght and cost plus availability. And performance is there for hunting and target.

25 cal is the hunter! Especially for things bigger and hairier than birds. For all the reasons above and more, the 30 will be a little better when the hades come out, but still not many choices and twice the cost and half the shot count. That being said, I personally prefer the 22 on birds under 75 yds. So if you have both ? Your good. But the 22 can’t do many things better than the 25, when it comes to hunting? My 2 cents.

I think you will be quite happy. Only problem is that all of your .22 guns will likely be shot a lot less!

For me, my .25 Dreamline (600mm) is used the least and my .22 Impact the most because I like the way it feels and of course, the variety of pellets and slugs that are available. That being said, my new WC MK3 Sniper .30 is quickly becoming my new favorite. There is just something about it. Simple comes to mind. I also have a full set of .22 700mm liners and probes I can interchange between the Impact and WC. Have a .30 Impact probe and mag on its way too. With all these options you can pick your Receiver, Caliber and other hardware for whatever the shooting situation calls for. Works for me.

I use .25 for almost everything except coyote, fox and Jabalina. For those is much better the .30

The Daystate in .25 cal shooting above 54 foot pounds is, in my opinion, an excellent all-around option. They are powerful, accurate and a delightful to shoot.

If you feel comfortable with 47 foot pound I would apply for a Uragan. Unbeatable!

I would say it would depend on what your shooting, I use mostly .25 for what I hunt. I have .22 and .30 guns, but pellets for .30 are hard to come by right now and much more expensive to shoot. Slugs for .30 are ready available but a lot of shooting to find the right tune for accuracy. To me .25 is an all around caliber.
