Carette Longevity

I’ve had mine for a couple of years. It has 40 hrs on it now and it’s still running like a champ! I bought it new, change the oil regularly, limit tank fills to 45 min or less, and I try to run it every week. I’m curious as to what problems are apt to surface with time and added use? Are there any high mileage maintenance issues that need to be addressed? The Carette doesn’t get a lot of attention here but I’m hoping to squeeze enough life out of it to justify the cost (60 hrs?) and would hearing from some long term users. Thanks! Uj

I had one for a couple of years and it ran like a champ. No issues. The person I sold it to has used it another 2 years with no problems. They are much higher quality than Air Venturi's or Hatsan Lightnings which are in the same price category. I've been working on a friend's out of warranty Air Venturi and the design and build quality of a Carette is much higher.

Mine has just developed a problem....I rebuilt it (standard rebuild mostly cleaning) at 90 hrs.......now here at 153 hrs, it looks a s though I need a replacement piston (tested with the company)...it's on it's way....the machine has been flawless up til now....I have 4 -88 cu bottles that I regularly fill ( I shoot a lot)...My intent however is to rebuild it one more time, and make someone a smokin deal on it.... I am purchasing a W31 Alkin....

Hi, mine also just went with a bang after 3 years. The fitting got separated at the condensor. No idea what happened, it was building up pressure just fine and at 200bar it just went bang.

Do you have any contactinfo of the original vendor so I can order spare parts? Or is this something I can fix myself?

Be_Airgunner. That looks like the same problem I had. The line has blown out of the ferrel and nut. It can be re-installed. Remove the nut, and you'll find the ferrel inside.Put the nut over the line, the ferrel on the end of the line, and put it back on the connection, and tighten. Before you do that, remove that fitting out of the cylinder/filter trap. On mine, there was a check valve, that had gone bad, and stuck closed. I removed it, as there is already a check valve on the output line on the high pressure cylinder.

Pull that fitting out, where the line blew out, then you can easily remove the nut, and get the ferrel out. Nut over line, ferrel over line, push up an inch or so, then insert into the fitting, and push it all the way in, then slide the ferrel and nut in place and tighten. On mine, when that check valve locked up, my line blew out at the other end, where it hooks to the top of the high pressure cylinder. I'd just about bet the check valve in yours is locked up too. Let us know what you find.😁

Cootertwo is Absolutely, 100% correct in his assessment of what's went wrong, and how to fix it....

I just finished my second rebuild on mine (154 hours) ...new piston and sleeve this time, along with all new O rings, and gaskets....run and fill times to 4500 are like it was when the thing was new........it's simply an awesome compressor..... with easy rebuilds, and fixes....

The maintenance schedule that I received was:

  • change oil every 20 to 30h.
  • check the belt every 40h and replace if worn
  • change cooling fluid every 2 years
  • change dryer contents every 40h

I would buy it again.

The only thing that’s a bit annoying is that I can’t seem to find the manufacturer on aliexpress to order a spare rebuild kit in case something goes wrong with the compressor block. The seller I bought it from in Europe no longer sells it.
