The 2015 CASA Christmas Match was held on December 11th at Heaven's Ranch. It was very nice day: a relaxing course, good attendance, good food(potluck), swap meet and club elections all rolled into one event.
Temperatures were rather chilly in the morning(40s) but rose to the mid-60s by the end of the match. Winds started light and gradually increased to about 5-7 mph by the third lane of the match. Then, wind direction changed 180 degrees and speed reduced to 1-3 mph. All this under sunny skies.
The 42-shot course consisted of seven lanes, two targets per lane and three shots per target. There was one offhand lane. There were sixteen competitors. Many thanks to Larry Pirrone, Art Burciaga and Rick Rogers who helped run the match.
Doug Miller had a great day and cleaned the course shooting in Open PCP followed by Vince Pacheco, Vipha Miller and Rob Wild who had equipment issues. Great battle in Hunter Piston where Mike Duckett took the win(outstanding score: 35/42) with Jeff Carmello in hot pursuit-just one point behind. Kelly Hawe took the win in Open Piston with an excellent 34/42. He was followed by Carlos Iglesias, our re-elected club president Ron Jobbes and William Loi. This was William's first match and he did very well. Of note, Carlos' PCP had a failure the day before the match so he threw a scope on his R11, zeroed the rifle and shot without an elevation table-just guessing! Scott Hull shot a strong 36/42 in Hunter PCP. Jim Poh drove all the way from the Bay Area to shoot with us and had a good day shooting a 28/42 in WFTF Piston.
