Tuning cayden leaking air

My neighbor has a fairly new cayden that he says is leaking air. He said it's only after he fills it and it sits for a while and that it only leaks about 500 psi then keeps it from there. The gun is all stock never been tuned or taken apart. I looked through here and couldn't find anything from someone else that had a similar problem. Any ideas where to look or is he imagining things? lol thanks

thats usually a symptom of a leak around a gauge thread .. its so slight it acts like a regulator and will leak down to a certain point and hold .

best first procedure is pull the stock, top the gun up, dab some soapy water around the gauge threads .. if it foams up tighten the gauge slowly until it stops ... youll need a 15/16ths (if i remember right) 6 sided socket in 1/2" drive and a good sized handle to prevent damaging things and make it simple .. i'd say go no more than 1 full turn .. should stop it, but if its still bubbling it needs to be pulled and resealed ..

I agree with dizzums. The gauge is the first place I check for a leak, and for a while a couple years ago every Crosman pcp product I bought had a leaking gauge that just needed tightened a tiny amount. 60% of the time it works every time.
Next culprit would be a leak around the fill port or the tiny o ring on the poppet. (Poppet o ring failure will cause the rifle to BRAAAAP really loudly if you put the rifle on low power and shoot it.)

I think there are only about 12 to 14 o-rings in the Cayden, so it’s not rocket surgery to figure out where the problem is, but it’s been easy for me with both the Kratos and the Cayden to nick an outer barrel o-ring or the outer o-rings for the valve when reinserting them into the receiver. It’s a tight fit and they kind of pop back into their place with a little bit of twisting and lubricated well with silicone grease or silicone oil. So it’s a good idea to have those extra o-rings on hand if a person decides to work on it themselves. I’d also recommend taking some really fine sandpaper and try to sort of chamfer the edge of the hole you are inserting into to help ease the o rings past the sharper edges.
In any event though the Cayden has a great warranty and your neighbor can just send it in to have his leak fixed since it sounds like he probably isn’t experienced enough with PCP’s to safely fix it himself.

Just a FYI on O-rings. In my home town there is and industrial rubber and seal supply and I can get o rings for five to ten cents each. Just bring in your old one and lay in a supply. Far cheaper than buying kits from the manufacturer or air gun shops. That's handy with my Marauder which is horrible about clipping o rings. Its down, yet again, for clipped o rings.
