I have a buddy that picked one up, the thermal does work but passed about 20-30 feet it's just a reddish orangish blob you can't tell if it's a rock, rat, or anything else. If you have to have thermal on the cheap I would recommend the xnfrared t2pro it's about $300 and is good out to about 50 yards or so clearly. Not to mention Doogee is a definite phone home device from China.

The other thing is I do not believe you can put the thing behind a lens like a scope and still see thermal.

That is correct.
Thermal scopes cannot see through regular glass. Thermal scopes have the entire optics pathway made out of Germanium, which is kinda expensive.
