Challenger air rifle and comparable

Hello. I am brand new here. I am posting because my son has become interested in air rifle shooting. He is in 9th grade and joined the JROTC at his school. Now he is getting involved in the air rifle team. They use the Crosman Challenger .177 air rifles. I would like to get him his own to use, but see that they can be quite expensive. I am just wondering if anyone here might have input on this type of rifle or different brands that are comparable. I can get it reconditioned if needed.

If you are looking for used another one to keep an eye out for that will fit his needs is the AirForce Edge if other brands are allowed in ROTC.

Also, be careful of scammers. A post like this will bring them out of the woodwork. If you get a message "my friend has one. Email them at xxx" be wary. Deal with people through the forum and check them out .

Hello and welcome to AGN. I suggest talking to the JROTC coaches / parents first. Probably a few local resources. Might find a gently used one if the JROTC is popular.
