Cheap .22 pellet recommendations

As Bob said, testing different pellets is required if you’re after most accurate. We don’t know if you want to shoot Grounhogs in the ear canal or groups. What gun doesn’t guarantee a magic pellet as every barrel can vary.

I personally use CPHP’s for messing around out to 50 yards but if I’m grouping or LR most of my guns prefer JSB, H&N FTT, Kodiaks, Barracuda Match 5.52 & RWS Super Domes.

Budget wise under 50 yards for even pest birds Crosman’s should do good enough out of any rifle for bird chest shots. If not, make sure all is good with gun be it loose screws, scope, etc. as 12 years ago Crosman Premieres were pretty much the best pellets available.

Anyone have any old white & black Sheridan .177’s or Green/Gold/Silver tin Beeman Kodiak .22’s I’d take em all.

Too bad you don’t need .177’s as I’d give you a tin of JSB 8.44 to try though these heads are .176-.177.

If your gun likes the CPHPs, you will be in pellet heaven. I get them from Wally Mart for less than $7/Tin of 500.

^^^ Yuuup. Exactly.

I've got over a handful of .22 cal rifles and a pistol that all shot / shoot the CPHPs amazingly!
As soon as I get a new rifle I actually use them to break in / lead in the barrels, and then continue to shoot them..

Even if they don't shoot 'great' initially - I've found that if I keep shooting them - I'll see better and better performance!
I only shoot them indoors though.. 10 meters.. They'll hit hole through hole / pellet on pellet consistently in every gun now.
I've also had great luck with JSBs 15 grain, 18 grain, and H&N's 21 grain. [when using higher powers or shooting outside]

The cheapest pellets I've seen recently are the Crosman 14.3 grain Hollow Points. In .22 about $6 for 500 at Wally World. As for accuracy, out of a Marauder at 900 fps, I get two inch groups at 50 yards. Pretty bad, but I use them more as burner pellets for chrony work. I know my 18 grain JSB's run about 80 fps slower than the 14.3 HP's. Great for breaking in your barrel as well. I've run over 4000 rounds over the chrony in the Marauder, and so far, the results have been reliable. As for the accuracy, so far, it isn't there, but you never know, maybe your gun will like them (mine really doesn't)

I guess it depends on what you are doing with your airguns but I don't see a point in shooting any pellets other than the most accurate ones in your gun. It is nice if it likes less expensive pellets but I buy whatever shoot the most accurately in each of my guns. I make a point of trying H&Ns since they are a little cheaper than JSBs and FX if a gun likes JSBs but if it wants JSBs it gets JSBs.

I have not had an issue with 22 caliber Crosmans and shoot them sometimes in my Prod but it likes H&N FTT copper plated more so that is all I've bought for it for several years. I might buy more 22 caliber Crosmans or some of the newer single die pellets but I will probably never buy another tin of the 177 "normal" ones. I have two tins that were horribly inconsistent in head size. I am worried the 22s might exhibit the same thing. With Crosman's financial difficulties I might make it a point to buy some but I really think there are better pellets for not a lot more money.

My point is my view is the cheapest pellets to shoot are the ones your gun likes the best. Shooting inaccurate pellets seems like a waste of time to me. My view is that H&N Baracuda pellets have an excellent balance between quality and price. JSBs are also high quality in my experience but less consistent in weight and sometimes a little pricey. One of my guns really likes JSB 34 grain MKII the best, however, so that is what it gets.

Thanks for the information, I’ve had good results with the crossman premier in both .177 & .22 cal. As well as jsb & h & n. Anyone have a experience with the Gamo pellets?
I shoot Gamo Red Fires a lot. Very good pellets. Kind of like a cheap polymag. I've found these and CPHPs do really well for cheap pellets. One thing I've noticed is the Red Fires do really well in my Gamo break barrels (hmmm....coincidence?) They also do pretty good in my Daystate Revere and really good in my Seneca Aspen. I wouldn't waste money on any other Gamo pellets if I were you. At least I never found one that was decent in any of my guns.

Everyone will tell you CPHPs, and for good reason.
Other high value pellets that I can recommend come from H&N - the 14.66 FTT's can often be had for around $6/250, and the Baracuda 18's for 7 or 8/250.
I've had some good luck with the H&N Sport wadcutters too, that aren't expensive. They are better pellets than the CPHP's, but they do cost more. At least until the dark day when Walmart is no longer the CPHP honey hole.
The Dark horse in this race? 14.5 RWS SuperDome pellets. They aren't very domed, but they have been very, very accurate for me, and not so expensive. I've caught them on sale for $4/250 but not for a year or so. Expect them to be 7 or 8/250 as well these days. Very underrated pellets IMO, probably because their BC isn't much better than a wadcutter.

H&N Barracuda Match
$7.99 for 200 from Hatsan

$8.99 from Utah Air Guns

All my .22 love them, heavy 21 grains.

The H&N Barracuda 18 is pretty good too
