Unlikely that it would explode. As the claim says it would leak first. It would spring a leak and take off like a missile...

has there been any reports of such occurrences ?

If there is a failure to the integrity of the cylinder ...in this case caused by a pellet as the source of the leak. Of course any tank could "spring a leak" by a direct pellet shot...but some could "spring a leak" on their own if they are defective or inferior in quality. .

Most likely assumtions worded like facts.
