Cheapest basic chrony

$34 bucks will get you in the game. Best bang for the buck.

I’ll second shambozzie’s recommendation. I have two nicer, more expensive chronographs—a Competition Electronics ProChrono and an FX—but the cheap one ends up being the one I use the most.

Several reasons:
1. Convenience – it attaches in seconds and is immediately ready to go.
2. No lighting requirements – it’s self-illuminated with infrared LEDs. Works every time outdoors or indoors, in the sun or the shade, or in complete darkness. No need to mess around with diffusers or external lights or anything like that.
3. Confidence – it never misses a reading. Never. I can’t say that about any other type of chronograph. For instance it is absolutely infuriating to drag out a conventional chronograph to check a regulated PCP for possible regulator creep, only to then miss the first shot. I’m glad to be rid of that problem forever.

The negatives in my view are:
1. No way to save a string or programmatically export it. If you want to keep it, you have to manually copy it to a spreadsheet. I don’t frequently save long strings so that doesn’t weigh heavily for me and I see you expressed a similar comment.
2. Readings are in meters rather than feet per second. Likewise, I can punch the numbers into a spreadsheet if I want it in FPS.
3. If you are accustomed to FPS, readings in MPS represents an effective resolution of about 3fps (+/- 1.5fps).

I'll also give Shambozzie a thumbs up on the cheap chrono. I just got my first PCP using the "buy once, cry once" creed spoken in these forums. But when it comes to support items for the gun I have cheaped out until further down the road. I got the pictured chrono above from eBay a few $ cheaper than Amazon. As nervoustrig said it outputs mps and not fps - but not to worry, your friend Google quickly converts the reading. For now I'm really happy with the cheap chrono I purchased.
