Check the terms of your warranty freight cost.

Hey Guys and Gals,
Had a interesting incident occur while trying to ship my gun for a warranty issue.
This is going to be a very generic post, no airgun names, no manufacturer names. Don't ask.
I have an airgun that is still under warranty. Something very strange occurred while I was working on my gun. I was stumped so I contacted the service center and talked to a technician. After a very lengthy discussion, he concurred that I had followed proper procedures during my work and suggested I send it back so they could take a look at the gun, something small is wrong.
Packed it up, went to FedEx, fright company this manufacturer uses. Three quotes to ship starting a close to $350.00, down to $150.00. Puzzled that my freight wasn't paid for warranty work , once again call customer service, while at FedEx, and was told that the company had changed policy on freight cost for warranty work. Change the policy on a sales contract we had entered into at the time I bought my gun. To me that seemed illegal, but not being lawyer, I couldn't be sure.
Anyway, thanks to the wonderful customer service representative, we got it sorted out, and my gun is in route . My return freight will be charge to me but at the manufacturer's rate, not general rates.
Bottom line, before you ship your gun back for warranty work, make sure of your freight rates just to be sure policies haven't change.
All is good.
Thanks
Mike

It def isn’t unusual to have shipping, especially back to a manufacturer, not covered under warranty. The rates you were quoted seem outrageous though. Are you sure you weren’t actually being quoted “fedex freight” rates and not ground or express ?? Those are all different divisions of fedex for very different purposes. Those sound like freight rates not parcel rates.

Edit…fedex is working on combining all divisions under 1. Actually ground and express I believe have already been combined.

for real, you can ship a 20lbs double boxed rifle in a case across the nation for $75 with fedex express.

Hummm, your response makes me wonder about the kid at the FedEx shop. However, I didn't know that I needed to ask for anything more than just " like to ship this" . Do I need to ask for express or ground shipping?
Thanks.

Ive had it both ways.

Gun Brand A that regularly get bashed alot or snubbed. Pays all shipping in the first year of the warranty. Near no ? Asked , print off the shipping thing afix it to the box and its gone...

Brand B. Higher price, raved on , nuttin but da best..lol. Good luck. Email tag to get rma the you foot the bill then they try to dump the issues on you so get out of warranty and charge you parts and labor and. 1/5 of the warranty time as brand A ..

I ran into this at fedex office awhile back. I filled out freight paperwork not realizing it and took it to the counter and was shocked at the prices. The person at the counter never even pointed out why. It took me a few minutes to r EA like what I had done. However I don’t think it is even done that way anymore where you have to fill out a shipping slip prior so I can’t imagine the employee would make that mistake but who knows. Did you go to fedex office or an actual fedex terminal? Fedex freight terminals don’t even have direct customer shipping personnel there so I’m sure you weren’t at one of those.

Is fedex and fedex express one in the same? Do I go to the fedex to ship fedex express?
I believe they have combined into one division called fedex one. Before express was like the priority division and ground was the economy division. No idea if it all works the same now or not as I haven’t shipped anything through them in quite awhile. Often ground would be just as fast as express but cheaper. I only used express for over night and sometimes 2 day service that ground couldn’t make.

It was a fedex shop. Probably 3000 Sq ft. Now I definitely did not fill out a shipping label, just walked up and b told the lad I'd like to ship it to this address , as I handed him the address.

Regardless of which shipper the gun manufacturer uses, you don't have to use FedEx. I've used them all including UPS and USPS. Recently, I opened an account with Pirateship.com. They provide shipping costs and discounts with all shippers so you can choose which one you like. I've saved a ton of money. Once you choose your shipper, you print a shipping label via the website, tape in on the box and drop it off at the pickup point. No questions asked.
