Checking targets down range and setting up your Home Range

Just wondering what everyone uses to check their hits when shooting down range. 25 yards is not bad but its those 50 yard targets that are hard to see. I was thinking of buying a spotter but then I thought maybe there is something new out with WiFi or similar to see down range. Going back and forth to check targets wore me out today and I am considered in deceit shape, that is one mans opinion!. lets here of the ideas. my woman would not want to see a pulley system set up with cables going down to the back range
I had to hear her when I marked out the yardage to 75 yards I can shoot. I had sticks in the ground with markers, then she seen it and I can tell after being with the woman for 45 years she was not happy. So what I did was get 3/4 pvc and cut pieces a foot long, I then pounded them into the ground at different yardage marks. I then had old medicine bottle caps that I hot glue on top of the pvc I sunk almost flat in the ground, this way I can ride over them with my tractor and I do not have to do any trimming. I got a magic marker and put down the yardage on each cap 25,30,35,40,45,50,55,60,65,70,and 75 yards. I made a stand that I can move to different markers

I would be curious to hear what others came up with for their home range. No one can see anything out of place but my range is in place, just need to cut down on the walking part. is the spotting scope the way to go??. Lets here about your home ranges and how they are set up and keep the walking part in your mind.lol. Take it lite.......Pete
 
For a couple bucks more then what I was going to pay for a spotter I ran into this system and it is pretty neat. that is a good idea about the scope on the tripod, I may try that and it will not cost be anything as I have extras around. I bought a bracket for my Binoculars but they are not good glasses and very hard to see. Once you get old eyes this becomes a problem.

Look at RC FPV equipment. With the boom in RC quad racing it is cheap and plentiful.

You could take a RunCam which records and add a 5.8GHz transmitter (200mW) to the output for a live feed to
a monitor at your shooting bench. Total cost to cobble together would be WELL under $150

Also consider the RunCam 2 Records and works over WiFi, Totally self contained with rechargeable battery and all you need is it for $99 and a Phone or tablet with the app installed.

Edit: Also MUCH CHEAPER than the solution presented in the next post below although if you could "rent" a kid it might work well. lol :p

Do you have our latest iOS software? It records, measures groups, flattens the target (removes skew), saves/loads sessions, does a grid overlay for targets without a grid, etc.

You can use the app for free to measure groups now as well :) You simply take a picture of the target, mark the corners and tell the software how large the target is and it does the rest :) 100% free and you don't need our hardware to use that feature.

"jking"Pete, maybe switching target colors would help. With my Hawke SW tac's I'm not having much trouble seeing pellet holes at 100yds. The orange dots on a white sheet of paper works well for me at the longer ranges. Some of the printable targets that we were looking at might be better for the shorter ranges .

Pete, I work in an asphalt lab so I use the discarded asphalt core specimens buried in my yard for my yardage markers. Like you I have them buried just low enough to mow over. But I have mine set every 5 yard increment from 10 yds to 55 yds for my Field Target practice.
I have a wooden rod with one yard increments that I move between the 10 yd and 15 yd marker. I also pick it up and move it for when I need to shoot 1 yd increments between the 15 yd and 20 yd marker. I set my targets every 2.5 yards from 30 to 55yd mark.
I have about 6 pellet traps with paper targets that I move around the range when practicing along with a half dozen metal targets. I use hold over so this helps me be a little more precise by shooting on paper. I have a 10-50X60 Sightron Siii set on 30 power and have no problems seeing the pellets hit the paper all the way out to 55 yds. I copy my hold overs to a dope sheet that I use for the matches.



I like to use Ed Canoles 3/8 inch bulls on 5/8 inch squares target sheets on my pellet traps. That was shot early last year. I like to think I'm a little better than that now? LOL



I was able to see these pellets hit the target at 50 yds with my Sightron on 30 power. I was elated at the bottom left group ;-)



This photo of Renae shooting you can see the wooden stick on the ground. It's actually two sticks butted together and the near end is at the the 10 yd mark. Looks like first target is at the 25 yd mark and the far target at 45 yds.



Got the umbrella out when it's too sunny.


Renae again, with all metal targets. Notice the asphalt core samples above ground in the photo. We have since moved them to the left and buried them.


She looks out for me ;-)

Yeah, Jade is fearless when it comes to airguns. Except for the .50 cal Dragon Slayer. She didn't care for it ;-) Our other dog is terrified of them all.




We even have the deer come out to eat while we're shooting. I feed them corn out of doggie bowls







Our Boston terrier loved to hang out with Renae also. Rest her little soul. She went over the doggie rainbow last year at over 15 years old.
