Went down a YT rabbit hole, and came across the Chiappa FAS 6004. Now it has me thinking about getting a "starter" 10M pistol.

Something quality around $500 or so. Accurate and serviceable. 

I want the single pump/cock variety. What are my available choices? Any recommendations?

I was just going to get the FAS 6004, but cannot find them anywhere, but it seems to fit the bill so far. 
 
The basic platform, fit and appearance is 5 star.....and probably the only gun you can realistically use for true match work at this price point.

Forget the V10 it is not good enough in the trigger department.

That said, there are some issues to sort from OEM which you should not have to do but if you want to enter into match shooting, you will have to accept as i did. 

To address the issue of the leaking breech caused by the angled alignment of the bulkhead contacting the base of the breech, you will need to follow the method in the Target Talk article......fully tested by myself as being simply doable for the amateur and a lasting cure. ...also gaining upto 50 fps velocity....dependent on amount of leak. The rifling is also quite tight and has a preference for softer skirt pellets....see the recommendations in the article.

For the engineer, you can pack the piston face for a bit more velocity as the gun is a little under compressed compared to the Beeman P17. The piston is too clear of the bulk head face on full cock....meaning lost compression. I ran an article on there how to sort this also.

Is it worth doing? ...It depends if you have the funds to push on for a Pre charge match pistol at treble the price, If not, your stuck with it for the time being....With the SSP platform so simple, cheap to produce and reliable, i have never been able to figure why we have not seen similar match pistols from the likes of HW etc.....

Thanks all so far- I did already research the FPS "fix" so I am tracking there. I have other PCP stuff, but the 6004 just seems too perfect for some indoor shoots.

Yes, I can't believe there are not more similar offerings. I have looked at the AV-V10 online, but the plastic top end has me cooled on the idea of getting one. I can find those in stock, so I just might try it out, but the FAS 6004 looks to be 10X the pistol.

Thanks for the heads up for that used one, but I want one either new or un-modified as a base platform.

The V10 trigger is not in the same class but commendable in that the gun requires no fixes like the FAS does at treble the price, but forget adding rails and dot sights etc. That plastic will not take it. My pet hate is being able to see into the gun from below as the plastic moulding is not solid around the barrel like the P17. Im not keen...pay the extra..

+1 for the FAS 604/6004 platform, still have several, and went back and forth with Clarky on the old thread. Learned a lot, and got my pistols shooting great. Added two layers of metal duct tape on the piston top and got about 35 more fps out of them. They are extremely well built yet are simple enough to do a reseal by yourself. Orings are all metric, so if you need a list, PM me.

Thanks to 218Bee I got a FAS 6004 (sale went great).

I have a range at my shop, so I started shooting it less than 10 minutes after the Post dropped it off. All I had on site were some inexpensive Crosman Destroyer 7.4 grain.

Because it's single breech load, you could really feel how inconsistent the skirts were, but nothing too crazy.

At 10 meters I got everything in the black right handed (my natural side) and everything but 1 in the black with my left. Target diameter in black is 3 inch.

Trigger is really good! The sights are crisp and very balanced in relation to blade/notch width.

Hello guys,

I am new to AGN and thought I'd sign up as I am thinking of buying a FAS 6004 in the next couple of weeks. I have read many articles and forums regarding the velocity problems etc, it did put me off initially, however with all the great suggestions for correcting I am still intent on buying one. I am not a 'handy' person, and not very good with tooling etc so am still a bit concerned about doing some of the mods. The adding of a shim under the standard o-ring to improve velocity a little sounds ok to do. I'm assuming any material is ok for making the shim, so long as it doesn't compress? Can this be done without having to loosen the barrel and reseating it? Does the shim provide adequate fix without having to start unscrewing things? Any help greatly appreciated. Many thanks.

The pellet velocity is not...a problem ! It's just the way the gun was designed. It's a..."target" pistol. It wasn't made for gutting pellets through ANY type of skin, just through...paper !

And yes, it's very good at doing that.

Sure, you MAY be able to up the velocity a little, but at what effort, and at what gun livability ? If you want a gun that shoots faster, then buy one that shoots faster, simple.

Yeah, the cracking of the top barrel housing of the Mk1 was due to the right angle at the relief cut away, which is designed in to make loading easier. The 6004 now has this area re-designed as a slow radius instead which prevents the issue, but it was still very rare.

The sealing of the breech is easily followed by either my method, or Stofers method on Target Talk…

Their are several ways to attack raising the breech seal O ring higher up in its groove so that barrel does not need to clash with the TP bulkhead.

Some twirls of floss under the O ring is a quick fix but purchasing either a Quad seal, or employing a backing washer is a more lasting method.

Keep the felt wiper wetted with some Pellgun oil or Hydraulic oil..

Finally, and optional, add a shim to the piston face .007…or 0.7mm to add some extra compression. Its only ever going to be a 400 fps gun but its better than the 330 - 340 fps stock and will cut clean cards, regardless of the card quality….it does not at 330 fps..

Hi guys,

I was on the verge of buying a nice restored 604 last month, but changed my mind, which I'm glad about. A new FAS 6004 will be landing here soon, exciting times! I will be making the adjustments, however I think I'll leave the piston pack, as that's a bit beyond me unfortunately. I'm excited to see how it compares to my FWB model 100. Many thanks indeed.
