Exactly, I can understand why they suggest go a size up to prevent clipping. Especially since some guns are known to be sent out with thread adapters attached to the shroud that aren't perfectly aligned with the barrel (airicuda max is a good example of this). This in turn would cause some owners to blame the moderator maker instead of the manufacturer of the gun.Precisely for this same reason, I have noticed that the Huggets moderators are more efficient than the DFL, since this last ones are designed to be used one size up to avoid clipping. However, this in turn prevents them from further minimizing the noise compared to those that are designed to be used in the correct size of the desired caliber .
Realistically if everything is properly aligned, you be able to get away with not going up a size, and in turn should get improved sound reduction.
