Other Choosing an M4 question

Would I be doing myself a disservice by getting a .177 in 600m? I'm learning a small bit more towards that because of shot count, quietness, as well as I have 100 yard (91.44 m) private range and indoor 100 near me. If I do any hunting with will be small game only up to a rabbit. The other option is 22 in 700 mm. Obviously, which whichever I choose ill be getting a barrel of the other caliber.

Edit: I have no power restrictions, I am in Florida.

I am thinking a 600 mm M4 in .177 will have a lot of fun in it, but as mentioned in the pea caliber choice is limited.
I would shoot .22 if my masters would allow it, but i can not have such awesome powers..

My Maverick with the original 600mm barrel would not shoot well ( FAC ) ( bad luck in barrel lottery )
But the second i got a 700 mm barrel on the sucker, and later a heavy barrel it was good times, and i am many many 10.000 shots into that rifle.
And i have been having great fun out to 130 yards with slugs i have predominantly been shooting, but pellets have also worked even in the heavy liner CUZ in .177 the 2 liners are the same when it come to twist, so at least with lighter stuff like 13 grain slugs, i be hard pressed to tell a difference.

.22 on the other hand real difference in barrel twist rate, and on the ammo side far more choice, even different sizes in a given weight.

So if no one hold dominion over you like me, i would for sure go for .22, you can also shoot it relaxed if you want to, no saying just the heaviest of stuff as the fastest of speeds will be fine.

May I ask why the non faith in 177?
They seem to be hit or miss, and can be very ammo picky. Whereas the rest of the FX line-up is rock solid with a wide variety of ammo. The Crown/Dreamline 177 are really good, but for some reason lots of people have trouble with the 177 Impact/Wildcat/Maverick etc. I own a 177 Wildcat myself but havent had a chance to group it yet.

177 is a fun challenge, especially in the wind. I had a Maverick compact for a few months in 177. I was not happy with it for multiple reasons. I won’t buy another liner barrel gun from my experience and many others out there. I sold it and bought a Revere 177 that is great, boring great. I also bought an Air Arms S200 177 that gets most of my attention now.

It’s not an Impact, but I’d take a BullShark 177 over that Maverick 7 days a week and twice on Sunday. Call me crazy, but I experienced both and still own the BullShark.

I have not been fixing to buy another FX in spite of all my fun with the Maverick, since then i got a AGT Vulcan 3 and i now have a Epic airguns Two.
The DRS classic had me wound up though, but then as its knobs are not reachable, and i am not the kind of guy that take a girl to dinner but no dance, well the DRS just had to go on the back burner.
Right now i am a bit torn, really like the RTI Mora, but it is at the very limit of my ability / want to pay for a new rifle.
So i am hoping IWA and what not will surface something nice that can get my old ticker going

I know this is not what you asked, but my advice is to steer clear from the M4's. A lot of them that people have bought them have had issues, like send back to your dealer issues. The impacts are great if you get one that you don't want to mess with, and if you don't mind spending the time to tinker and adjusting just right. If you do decide to get an impact .177 make sure to get the .177 heavy slugs liner 1:16twist otherwise you will only be able to shoot 16gr slugs. Even when you tune them, you gotta tune them hot in the sense that they need to waste some air to shoot well. Unless you shoot 14gr slugs and lighter.

Yes, but where you're spending $2000 on an airgun that you're likely going to spend even more money on, the last thing most individuals want to do is work on it, much less have to send it back for warranty repairs.

You might be doing yourself that disservice by not researching other, better options at similar price points. For your described uses there are many choices…

This is my biggest issue with FX. Spend top tier money on a rifle that needs additional upgrades to keep up with the rest of the top market. I mean if the manufacturer can market extra parts to fix their design, there is a problem.

ETA: I just bought my 5th FX rifle, and in 177 so maybe dont listen to anything I say haha. I do already have a 22 and a 25 Cal and wanted a 177 for FT for context. It was my last choice to add to the stable.

And this is where the train starts going off the tracks. His gun is currently in for repairs because of horribly slow first shots and he has to check his zero constantly while hunting. I could provide a link to his latest topic. The reality topic that usually pops up after the honeymoon topic.

Here are my 177s. I have an RTI P3 that I can shoot 16g JSBs at 30fpe. It also likes slugs. I have a Krait standard that does 10g KOs better than I can shoot and I can goose it up to 25 fpe - plus you can almost shoot it as a pistol. And my 3rd is a Wolverine R that is 19fpe and just plain consistent with 10.3g JSB/FXs.

They are all back yard friendly and deadly to 75+ yards. Other than me tuning the RTI for swapping barrels, I just shoot and enjoy them. No problems with any of them.
