Tuning chronograph

This is the one I really like. I had one for about 12 years and it worked great. I recently upgraded to the Bluetooth version and also got the light kit that they offer. It works great indoors or in the dark with the light kit. I’ve been very happy with my Pro-chrono units for a long time.

I have the Pro Chrono blue tooth model mentioned above, and it is a very good chronograph. Mine works fine even after putting a bullet through it! But I have been using a Magnetospeed V3 more in recent years. I do a lot of air rifle tuning at home, and it's nice to have a chrono that I can use indoors with no need for light. It operates by using magnetic fields that are embedded in the bayonet unit that attaches to the barrel, so you need minimal space. I usually shoot into a box beside my stool. The only downside, it's a bit cumbersome when working with multiple rifles, since you have to attach the bayonet component to the barrel. It takes only seconds to attach, but you need to first determine the correct spacer, based on the diameter of the barrel or suppressor. It's a great option if you need it indoors.

I own a Caldwell kit with lamps and tripod that was my first chronograph. It works fine, but is a lot to set up and get right before you can just shoot. It can also be used for testing hand loads in powder burners. I saved my pennies and bought an FX pocket chronograph. That is my go to chronograph for air rifle tuning and testing. Worth every penny in my opinion. Downside is you cannot use it for your powder burners (except maybe lower velocity pistols). With the FX, I shoot groups while taking chronograph readings when testing pellets.

What do you want to use the chronograph for? Airguns only, I'd recommend the FX. Powder burners too? I would recommend the Caldwell. The Caldwell is also easier on your wallet.

I agree with Bucky. Best one I used so far under $250. My reasoning has a couple things not mentioned or considered. I own a pro-chrono with light kit and Bluetooth. When the light conditions are ideal works great but I shoot from dark to light. Having to make room for the chrono on a bipod in front of the rifle takes some setup ie time. Dropping a reading every 10-15 shots can get frustrating. This is what led me to try the FX chrono.

When I pack up to go shoot with buddies or the range I’ve got 3-4 gun cases air tank range bags pellet boxes you get the picture.. With fx chrono got a small box to go with the tool bag and I can fit in a set of extra batteries in the box with it. I wish it had a nice zipper case but I can overlook that cause it works extremely well. No extra bipod getting the perfect alignment to target to register the shot, it’s EZ. I was hesitant to purchase because I’m in the belief anything touching my barrel =bad. I’ve found this minimal on most my guns except the longest barrels that do vibrate when shot. Most the time tuning I’d run a mag through to get an avg FPS, deviation pull it off check zero, shoot on.

I think time you buy a pro chrono, light kit, possibly bipod your pushing 2 bills. I’ve had great luck with my guns .177-.30, again it’s a small footprint with your gear and Works great.

I use the lmbr https://lmbr.pl/. it works both outdoors, and indoors, and does not require any light setup. I usually use my chronograph while tuning the gun, so attaching a chronograph to the barrel makes no sence to me, as it will change the harmonics of the gun. I would reccomend one you can shoot true, and at the same time check accuracy on target. I know the FX chrony can be left on table, but I am not sure that work as good.
