Classified Ads You Waited and LOST On

Curious as to what some of your missed opportunities have been here. I check the classifieds daily unless I'm on a trip and have had a few items that have slipped through my fingers due to me waiting, procrastinating or just not being fast enough.

Three that come to mind.
1. An early BSA Lightning. I'm not sure why, but I've always loved the look of them. Saw one and pondered... and it was gone.
2. AirMax Katran in .177. I looked and looked at it. Just didnt have a need for it and still dont, but dang it was purdy.
3. A Texan 308 in white cam that I missed. I'll blame it on Helene as during the blackout, I decided if it was still available when I got internet back, I'd get it...but it wasnt. Another 'dont need it', but wanted it.

There is another gun right now that I've eyeballed in the classifieds that I typed up a msg to the seller twice now and didnt hit send. I just dont need it and cant justify it.

What are some that yall have missed out on that are memorable?
Hello @Rob_in_NC

When I see any item that I want to buy and it is in the "acceptable price range", I make the effort to buy it. I have learned that if I wait, most likely the next time that I look it has sold.

I seem to spend much more money on gunbroker.com than in the various classifieds on the forums. Like today a couple somewhat rare and gorgeous British pcp air guns and a Korean pcp pistol. Lost 3 others I was bidding on. One was for a type of rifle I purchased on American Airguns Classified for much less than that one sold for and the other two were of the I'll take them if you let me bids.

Didnt you win the Theoben mk3 and the Hartley and maybe others?

What always happens to me is I will be looking for something and it never never ever never shows up. Then I buy it or something else and wha la it appears in the classifieds. I’ve tried WTB ads but in my experience giving up negotiating edge with such an ad leads to people wanting you to over pay for a used item. I mean in general this is the case when something first gets listed in the classifieds. People always ask too much and this seems to be exacerbated with a WTB ad. Plus they attract scammers.

I applaud the owner of this website. I don't personally know him, but in my 25 years of buying airguns online, this is by far the best classified set-up I have ever dealt with. This is the only one I would buy an airgun from. It has accountability, whereas the others don't. I missed a Daystate Redwolf before Christmas, which was a great deal from a reputable buyer. Redwolf is on my list this year.

There is currently an extremely fair deal in the classifieds on a RW. I by far don’t agree with every way this place is run but the classifieds are top notch. I would always stick around for those if I ever decide to completely quit posting.

I've missed getting a few items from time to time.
Most always because I've replied too late to the ad.
I call it "ya snooze, ya lose"
No big deal, of course.
But while reading this thread I remembered one that burnt my butt.
I was the first call to a guy in the Louisiana swamp about a nice looking Duk Il revolver pistol in a carbine stock
The gun was offered for $$$ or best offer
Generally, I don't bargain, but in this case I offered him $25 less. (a very small percentage)
He accepted and as we were trading info he got a call waiting. and said he had my number and would call right back
I waIted....
and waited....
and while waiting I refreshed my browser and up popped the gun marked as sold
The SOB sold it out from under me
for twenty-five effin' bucks
VERIFIED

The good news is that by this time tomorrow I will have forgotten all about it again

Do you still want a really nice Lightning?

You know, after I wrote that post I feared that someone would come back with similar. I will admit that the old school lightnings just have always piqued my interest, but I'm not sure I would want one right now. I have a Lightning XL that frankly I have a difficult time with, but I cant bear to get rid of it. Just something about those old style lightnings that I really like!

Will tag offline as I'm curious.

Yes, it is like they believe that some item they have almost forgotten is suddenly comparable to the same item at full retail minus 5%.
