I come back to browse the ad section after about 8 months, and it is still a nightmare. Having to wade through the 10, 15, 20, 35+ reply ads that are overpriced and don’t sell is a major hurdle to both buyers AND sellers! I know this isn’t the first time this has been brought up. Are we ever gonna fix this?

Regards

What kind of change do you suggest? The only thing I would ask to be added is search by brand. But that's it.

We could fix it like they did over on the Yellow where the same post or ad stays on page one for days on end because no one posts over there. I'm glad we get a lot of traffic here, even if some of it is repeat ads, folks asking how to gain access to classifieds, and posts asking 'what gun'.

I'll still open up the repeat ads on occasion to see if they've lowered price. If not, I silently wish them well and move on.

No, it's not perfect, but it's better than the rest out there, in my opinion.

Hello @BigVitamin

I would kindly suggest that if the Classified Ads upset you, then simply do not look at the them (y):D

I'm lucky when I find the classified section 🤣I didn't even know it had filters or search.. just thankful when I do get a chance to look through all the ads.
does thankful seem reasonable? to me it is.. thankful for the forum and thankful for the nice members who try to help..
I'm thankful

we are just fortunate to have this sight.. and to be members.. that said you don't have to use the classified section, I rarely do.. mostly because I don't get around the site or Internet well and I feel very lucky the days I find the classified section..
you could always try other advertising but I don't think FB or Craigslist allows airguns.. course I don't really know, I haven't been on Facebook for years.. rarely go to Craigslist..
I remember years ago when newspaper was common I used to pay for ads in the Fresno Bee.. I can't complain about free.

I see you’re 83, and if that is true I understand your sentiment. I know many of your generation like to say “ that’s just the way it is, we can’t fix it”, and that is how the world got to where it is now. You’re quite snarky, but other than that haven’t actually added to the discussion. I would like to try and make the classified ads accessible and user friendly as possible to facilitate a better user experience, and thus economy in the only good airgun site around.

Always vultures looking for deals so they can resale for a profit?

Price too high, move along!
I’m no vulture, look at my history…..I want people to be able to browse. IDK if you’ve ever been shopping, but if you go to a store full of things that haven’t sold in 35 weeks and the things you want are buried, you won’t buy that thing you see and say, “ I think I might need that!” The truncating feature is nice, sure. But as someone else said most probably don’t use it. I have purchased several things on here that I didn’t know I wanted or that even existed from browsing. Thanks for your “input” though, all is welcome. Also, if you have something to add in substance, I’d would love to hear your ideas; since that was the point of the post! This wasn’t intended to draw out the hurt feelings crowd, but apparently it has.

Hi, and thanks for the reply! I agree, this is the best air rifle sight around, and I would love to see things amended in this respect to not only grow our user base, but also facilitate a better trading environment here. This is such a valuable resource for the people,in this hobby!

Just follow the Member Classified and then only the new ads show up in your feed when you click on your user name. It's a much shorter list to scan because you only get a notification when there is a new post, the renewals don't show.
Cool, thanks! I will start using this trick myself! Every time this is brought up, the majoriy posts are the “don’t like it, move on” variety. That is a great attitude that will indeed result in people moving on to somewhere else like Reddit, which is full of uninformed idiots telling each other falsehoods and then spreading them to new hobbyists who don’t know any better. Furthermore, many of these new air gunners don’t know about this message board. We need to attract fresh blood, and the grumpy old man approach to not discussing issues and innovating isn’t the path forward.

I just buy to play with for a while , then sell as Used and usually at a loss , just to try something else .
This is the way, and one of the biggest advantages to this forum for new or burgeoning enthusiasts. Many of my first pcp’s were second hand, and really accelerated my interest in the hobby. I would not have been able to afford any of those rifles back then if it wasn’t for some of the very generous and adventurous individuals on this forum putting them up for sale when they either got bored, or decided it wasn’t for them.

TBH, I wasn’t aware of this. While it is very useful, I think that somehow moderating in some manner to address the low-effort reposting of things that never change price or sell would be something that would benefit the “browsers” like myself. Many things in this world are sold because someone was browsing and said to themselves “I didn’t know I needed that!”

Who you calling old?

Oh, yeah, thats me... ;)

All the tools to search, have the ads sent to your email, notify you etc are right there in the software, the younger ones know this because they read the site instructions.

Your obviously getting upset because of a FEATURE that I love, it's not a deterrent if you just sign up for notifications, the "renew" dont seem to be sent.

The reason why I say, “don’t like it, move on” is because I LIKE IT THIS WAY! I'm not bothered by the layout, I dont want it changed and there is no change needed.
