Clean barrels

I decided to give my three airguns a little TLC and cleaned the barrels. A Crosman 2289 (1 year old), Crosman 2300S (1 year old) and a Beeman P-3 (20 year old). It took numerous patches I lost count probably close to 50 (using both sides) to get the 2289 where I stopped. The 2300S and P-3 took way less, around 15 patches. I also noticed when I looked down the barrel with a light and magnification the P-3 and 2300 looked like it had a mirror finish I can't say that about the 2289. I know I'm not comparing apples/apples them German barrel . I'm so glad I didn't sell the P-3 which I had intended to do before I brought it to the range to make sure it was working properly before putting it up for sale.

I need to do mine, but they haven't given me a reason. I don't know if todays pellets are better, but I usually clean them when the accuracy goes south or if its a brand new one.

I clean mine at a minimum 500 count tin of pellets or less depending on how things look. Pulling one or 2 blackened patch is easier then 15+ .. Amazing how dirty can push a pellet off from deforming or just not catching the rifling proper. Or dirt sticks to the pellet and throws off its balance. Of course thats in my own opinion.. then dome dwate they never clean theres no matter ..???

Oh it was really black on the first few patches and it took quite a few to start looking like it was getting "there". I'll report on how it shoots once I get it to the 25 yard range

This is the first time I've cleaned it after the "new barrel clean". It's been close to 3K pellets. After I shoot it at the range if there's quite an improvement in the groupings maybe I'll clean it more often but there are some who say they never clean the barrels unless they see a drastic change it POA/POI. Thats hard for me to tell when that happens because I blame it on myself

Ok so after cleaning I must say I do see an improvement in the groupings so I'm joining the camp of cleaning the barrels do improve accuracy now the question is how often should I clean?? 500? 1000? or as some say when you notice the accuracy is off?

I have a new HW50s. Just finished a tin of crosman (500). It was good after 3 patches. I think it depends on the barrel an the pellet
