I started out with an Avenge X in 25 cal, because the shop didn't have it in 22 cal. I'm extremely happy with my choice. I decided to purchase a 22 Barrel Kit and decide that I would clean it well before putting on the Avenge X. So for after scrubbing with brushes ans well treated bore cleaners, I still get an awful lot of black on the patches. I looked at the bore with my scope, and it still doesn't look clean. Has anyone one else have this problem getting a new barrel clean before shooting it. The 25 cal was not a problem at all, but this 22 has me concerned. Over 30 patches and they still show sighs of fouling. The bore finish is really dark and rough looking.

just keep cleaning, pull a wet patch through slowly , let sit for 5 minutes , clean patches after that , repeat as necessary .

I would shoot it some, then try again. I can't imagine that kind of fouling in a new barrel.

It's never been shot. Here's a photo of my 7th and 8th cleaning attempts. I just finished the 9th and the bore still shows signs of fouling or maybe it that coating they put on for shipping overseas.

I notice that your patches progress from dark to light on the 7th cleaning, but are dark again when you start the eighth, with no shooting in between, which seems odd. I assume that your initial cleaning with rod and brush used something more aggressive than Ballistol. Regardless, I've always believed that performance should be the primary factor in barrel cleaning, and at this point, you still don't know how it shoots. The barrel could be coated with a rust inhibitor, but it seems that a good brush and solvent should have removed it.

Maybe a string puller and brass, copper or bronze wool patches set up to scrub pulling back and forth action with good solvent

Heck I use well oiled fine steel wool patches in my stuff also scotch Brite.. just don't go stupid with it is all

Maybe the combination of solvents you used are having a staining action and that is what your seeing as dirty ? I would run a few (4 or 5 ) dry patches and start shooting .
