Cleaning solution for rifle barrels.

I use the hopes copper brushes on rods, solid piece rods. From .177 ( brush and rod for 17hmr works good. Just brushes All the way up to powder 338., Balistol is great I also recommend Battle Born products.
Served me well all over the world. I never use lubrication inside a barrel unless its being stored for over 6 months.

AOA sells a cleaner that smells and works very much like the household cleaner "409". We may be overthinking this.

For years I have used Goo Gone ( not Goof Off). You can get it about anywhere. Don’t use that treadmill silicone.

I learnt from reading this forum and I tried different ways of cleaning my barrel and lubing slugs.

The best result that I got is to clean the barrel with bassitol first and then with dry patches. Leave it for a night then pull a couple of patches soaked with car wax. Blow out the excess wax by dry firing and leave it for a night. I also apply the wax on my slugs. The group improves by miles!

I just tried waxing my barrel not long ago. I'm guessing it is lubing the barrel with wax that improves the grouping most.

I would not say lubing the barrel improves grouping much at all.

In my experience, lapping and polishing a barrel improves accuracy, waxing slows fouling.

Waxing definitely keeps fouling at bay for me. Only downside, it takes perfect prep to apply, and re-apply properly. Currently I'm experimenting with rolling my slugs with a pad loaded with chain wax and I'm liking the results. 1000 plus 34 grains and counting. My barrel has just the right amount of seasoning and hasn't changed.

So, something like Ballistol is excellent, and it's really safe to use, prevents rust on outer metal, etc. I'm equally sure that WD40 would work, and Kroil, etc, but Ballistol is a bit safer on the skin and wallet, so why look further.

@Firewalker sorry. I made a mistake. I was trying to say that it's waxing of the slugs that I suspect to contribute most to accuracy improvement. Not waxing the barrel. But cleaning the barrel gives me a peace of mind.
