I used to want the deer but that desire has died. I've shot my big deer(170-180), i was mostly a trad bow hunter. I went thru all the stages of let's see how I can harvest a deer-rifles,pistols,black powders, compounds, crossbows. I enjoyed it all but I slowly lost the desire for myself to chase them. Now I will still go out during rifle and watch one of are wheat fields just to see if some big bone shows. If they legalize air rifles I will go after them with one. I still love to help my sons though. In fact my oldest has this on camera on one of our farms

Got to be honest this deer fired me up. 180s all day. Hopefully he gets it tonight with bow.

I love squirrel hunting and prs matches now. Less work cleaning more opportunities and more fun to me.

I love elk! We just don't have any here.
Caribou is tasty too.
We don't really either. Some are around in our Wichita mountains. But draw hunts only. There are a few ones running around here in the state. Never had caribou. Tried bear ,moose, antelope not a fan either. Elk to me is right up there with quail.

Gents , I used to feel the same way when it came to deer & bear hunting here. Now that flame has died & I've gravitated to airgun pesting & groundhogs. NO cleaning ( squirrels are tough w/ arthritic hands ) just pick up & place at appropriate "cleanup " spots ! A lot more shooting opportunities . It's nice to watch former quarry just amble by now.

I'm surprised no one said or the list does not include, "a woman to look at as she looks out for deer for me to shoot" - from a deer stand or blind of course. Why not bring your dear to hunt deer? Unless that's one of your escapes from her.

Deer hunting with big-bore airguns is challenging and fun.

I've tried deer jerky, the only way I can handle it is DRY, as leave it on the dash of the truck crossing Texas until it's dry dry. Wife ordered some at the N. Grand Canyon Lodge for breakfast, a CHUNK of RARE deer, didn't like the taste. Don't recall trying Elk, or I may have shied away from it because of the deer.
