cocking gun will not engage the safety

Just bough a used gamo hornet and when cocking, it wont set safety. What has happen and can I fix this without a smith? HELP

Dumb answer listen to Yo he is correct on the manual safety

Those don't have automatic safeties. You have to manually set them.
