Hello All,
I am new here (from Egypt) and looking for advise to tune my gun..
I've been reading around the internet on tuning but couldn't find the answer for what i am looking to achieve.. So please bear with me, I will try to provide all the details
The gun i have is COMETA ORION SPR
No scope, just a red dot sight (scopes are illegal here), so most hunting and blinking I do is under 50 meters (average 30 meters)
The subject gun doesn't seem to be very popular worldwide, hence the lack of tutorials/info specific to this gun
The pellets that I use are 0.22 18gr
Locally manufactured in Egypt so it's relatively cheaper than the brands you might be familiar with
These pellets seem to perform exceptionally well @~800 fps in my gun (thats about 26 foot pound of energy)
I am not seeking ti increase the velocity any higher, the gun is quite and the bolt action is smooth with this velocity and the energy generated (given the pellete weight) at this speed is more than enough for my use (dove hunting mostly, no larger preys available where i hunt anyway)
What i am trying to acheive is maximum shot count with consistent accuracy using the mentioned pellets
Tuning with hammer spring tension only gives about 60 good shots at this speed then when the reservoir pressure reaches around 140 bar the velocity starts going up (resulting in changing the point of impact, and louder sound)
Given the relatively small tank volume (330 cc) and the maximum fill pressure of 200 bar.. I was hoping to increase the working pressure range to reach under 100 bar
This will come in very handy in hunting trips/outdoor shooting as I can only fill the gun from the compressor at home
My questions are :
1. Any idea what the default regulator setpoint is? There is no gauge in the gun for the reg pressure but from chronograph readings i'd assume it's set to about 130 bar
2. Does the regulator (I never took the gun apart) has an adjustment screw to change the setpoint?
3. Would adjusting the regulator setpoint to around 90 bar help me acheive more shots per fill with consistent velocity?
4. Am i better off using lighter pellets? We have other locally available pellets that are 15 gr of superp quality.. I am thinking maybe those ones @900 fps will give me the same energy i get from the 18gr @800 fps (26-27 foot pound)
I can switch to these pellets if that's more effecient?
And in this case what's the recommended regulator setpoint?
Update:
Here is what my cronograph readings look like with current tune.. Best accuracy acheived @800fps
The pellets are directly out of the tin so some variations must be due difference in pellets weight
