N/A Cometa Springer (and PCP) Group Buy

Good afternoon guys. As some of you know, a couple of months ago I ordered in 6 Cometa guns for testing reasons. They looked great but I had to see how they performed. Being as to how there aren't many dealers for Cometa here in the US I reached out to Cometa who happily sold me some guns to play with. Well after a couple of months of testing and probably 15k pellets through the lot of them, I can safely say they are pretty decent guns. I will be placing another larger order here at the end of the month and offering up the chance to get in on the order.

The two guns in particular that I really like are the 300 USC Premier and the Fenix 400 USC Premier Start. The 400 USC in particular has really grabbed my attention. Its a very short carbine (40" including the moderator!) that is lightweight, has a fairly light target/hunting trigger, and has proven to be very accurate at 16-18fpe.

The 300 USC is a great 13fpe springer but has one major downfall OOB. The trigger is heavy and nonadjustable. Like 3lbs heavy. After doing a bit of experimentation with some polishing and light re-shaping of the sear I managed to get the trigger down to 1.5lbs and it works great.

I will be taking orders until the last day of this month. I have attached a few pictures with APPROXIMATE costs will be with currency exchange, shipping, and customs/duty fees already applied. The only additional charge to you will be whatever the actual shipping costs are from me to you once they arrive. If you have any questions or would like to get in on the group buy either send me a message or just drop a comment on the post.

If you visit Cometas website you can find the full array of what they are offering these days. I can get whatever you like, PCPs included, so if you see something that catches your eye let me know and I'll forward a total cost to you. I do NOT need the full amount up front. I would like a $50 deposit though which I feel is fair to ensure you are serious and I dont get stuck with a bunch of guns. That can be paid via whatever really. Check, Pay Pal, Money Order, doesn't matter. As long as its here before I place the order on September 1st.

I am also "quite taken" by the 400 USC Premier Star. Do you think it has the potential to be accurate enough for FT? Any idea of how heavy the cocking stroke might be? What scopes and mounts have you used in your testing, and how have they held up? Thanks Sqwirlfugger!
I can't give you an exact weight on the cocking effort but its pretty easy considering the power output. That big moderator gives you a really nice grip and assists with cocking it.

The .177s are plenty accurate for field target use if your intentions are to have fun, not winning against a field of German guns. You can still do very well with one though. My 30yd groups are typically about 3/4" but will do better.

As far as scopes go, this is a slight downfall but hasn't proven to be as much of an issue as I expected. I am currently using a UTG 3-9x40AO on mine. While it isn't a lightweight it certainly isn't a heavy field target scope either. The Cometas do not come pre-tapped with stop pin holes so lighter scopes with a one piece mount are probably best. My cheap UTG and UTG one piece mount have not moved even a hair at 17fpe without using a stop pin. A high mounted 38oz scope may not fair as well.

Good info, and thanks. Does the moderator do much to reduce the report upon firing?
Quite a bit. This isn't really a professional test but with my phones dB reader app I am getting readings of 88-90dB directly in front of the muzzle. With the liners and washers pulled out of the moderator the gun barks substantially more.

He hops up and down like a six-year-old needing to pee, waiting for September to come with Cometas on the doorstep ... 😄
Realistically I would expect mid to late September. They'll be shipped freight via a ship so between that and customs I really don't know for certain how long that process will take.

I know you are aware just wanted to say that pretty much any Db meter readings I have seen on various air gun post / videos on youtube are using non mil / industry standard equipment and seem way out line for what quiet should be.

We have a local NFA metering event held every year at Red Hill range in North East GA. Of course it 100% powder burning guns but id love to see someone with a number of store bought air gun cans to come and meter them and see how they stack up against advertised claims.

Probably close to $40-$50k in test equipment in that one picture. 6 BK2209 and 3 larsen davis meters.

Not trying to derail your thread OP just wanted to point that out. Something I had noticed since getting started in airguns a few months ago.

The 2 models you have in the OP look fantastic. I am amazed at how much $300 can buy in the air gun world.

I've been trying to find a good actual meter but everyone keeps telling me to steer clear of certain ones. I'd rather spend a bit more and get something reliable but nobody seems to have found a good one

The BK2209 was the industry standard for probably 30+ years. They can be found, mostly broken and require buying parts from all over the world to get them operational.

There is a new system out called pulse. Its a software based system and I got to see it at one of the meets. But I think they cost $75K new. It has a higher sample rate and can capture the true peaks of the sound waves.

The reason the BK2209 is still highly sought after is due to the fact we as a suppressor community have 30+ years of data on various suppressor designs, host, versions etc... Its just a great measure stick to compare with and no on really wants to deviate from it. Some of the big suppressor companies buy the pulse so they can get better data and brag about that data. But IMO not really fair.

Like measuring time at a drag strip with a pocket watch for 100 years then some of the guys using the same cars start using lasers timers, running the same speeds but there "time" is milliseconds better and then go brag about it. Some may in fact be faster but kind of hard to compare stats.

If I was you try to find a metering event the guys over on NFA talk do 2-3 a year. One here in GA and one in IL I think.

Here is a write up on the one here in GA. One of my suppressors was photographed for that article and didn't even know that till now. lol
