here's a Scope Specs Table for easy comparison: short/light scopes with at least 3x on the bottom end, and 9x or 12x on the top end.

▪All with 10y side parallax.

▪All with holdoff reticles (no BDCs or plain crosshairs).

▪Most of them with exposed turrets.

▪I tried to stay under $500 MRSP with this list.

Patrick, between you and Steve I think I'm just gonna have to try out one of these Helos BTR Gen2 2-12x42 in Mil. For what the gun will be I think the reticle will work nicely. Maybe not my favorite but definitely a nice reticle to use.

Thanks to all others who have put info out. FFP is a must for me and alot of mentions were SFP. Should have made that more clear. Also reticle wise I do like one that has a Christmas tree.

That's a good looking scope B...

I was going to say I have become a huge fan of the March-F 3-24x42 D24V42FIML FFP FML-1 for a small light rifle. Lots of zoom, great lighting, 12.28" in length and only 22.5oz.

Very nice for the price point. Only 17oz uncluttered reticle in SFP. Only negative is reticle is not illuminated. Perfect size for my Lelya.

Yeah, I like that Optisan 3-12x32. But I will never buy one.

Because I am one of those shooters dials the elevation for many shots rather than use holdover....

Why, WHY do so many scope manufacturers (Hawke!) make so many capped turrets instead of locking turrets? Both systems provide the safety against bumps, right?!



To me at least, when a manufacturer puts a cap on a turret, he in effect is telling the user: "Don't mess with those turrets! Set them ONCE, put that cap on, and leave'em alone! They're not made to be dialed for every shot!"

He has made it full circle back to a Taipan! I think that BB is the scope for the shorty. I too am going the short route, just to try one out to see if I like. Bought some no-name $36 8" 40mm scope on Amazon. If I like I'll wait for a sale on the BB. I remember then being about $69 late last year. Flash sale if I remember correctly. What caliber is that Shorty going to be Dillon?

.22 Ray. That's all I shoot anymore. And yes full circle for me. Back to Taipan. Cricket II was nice but wanted my Taipan. 

Yeah @wimpanzee I contacted multiple dealers and no one even had an estimate on when they would be in.

I think the best option for quality and compact is a fixed mag 10x or so from one of the higher quality manufacturers.

Sure, it's light and compact — but for my close range shots when stalking and I need to send one off in a hurry — a total deal breaker.... I need a FoV of at least around 25y @100y.

That's what my shooting scenarios require....

I received an Athlon Helos 2-12x42 from Camerland this week. They are in stock. The scope fits perfectly on a Taipan standard. I am not a fan of lighted scopes, but I like this one. No huge battery “hump.” One does not need to turn the illumination on, either. Reticle is very compact and straight forward.

Looks great! What rings do you have on it? I actually just ordered one from Tyler at MK Machining as I get all his goodies for my scopes anyways. Had 5 in stock. The height looks pretty good on yours at least clearance wise.

Those are a Vortex version of Seekin Precision’s PMR rings at .97 inches high. (Seekins makes these rings for Vortex and the two versions are identical, except for the ‘V’ or ‘S’ logo on top.)

The 42 mm bell of the scope does not completely clear the rail, which is okay as the the eye relief is perfect for me. If one wanted to be sure to clear the rail, using the PMR rings and the Helos 2-12x42 scope, I would suggest they pick the 1.26 inch height scope rings.

Grest info! I have Warne Mountain Tech Medium height rings I ordered for them at .99" height. It will be going on a shorty so the objective bell will be in front of the rail no matter what.
