FX Compact Comparison - Impact M4 vs Wildcat MK3 BT

Ted is the reason the wildcat is in the lead currently. Love his videos. I guess the beauty of these rifles is the ability to run them and adapt over time with longer barrels and caliber swaps. Just watched a video from shooter1721 on the 30 cal compact of the wildcat and it's impressive what it can do as well.
Everything is impressive in a video.

If you want to possibly jump back and forth from pellets to slugs and possibly use a bandaid slug like a hybrid, you need to be .22 with a 500mm barrel. Doesn’t matter which gun. A .25 is a fickle b with slugs especially with only a 500mm barrel. Winter has me doing a bunch of testing using slug vs standard liners in 500mm. All my Impacts already have their designated barrels but out of curiosity I’m just revisiting the 500mm options to see if I can discover something new to possibly pass along. In one sitting I was done with .22. I’m on several days with the .25. If you are going to go strictly pellets for plinking and hunting, get a .25.
Have you tested the FX hybrid slugs? From what I can tell, those potentially are a valid option for the compacts. Curious if switching between pellets and the hybrids would be as much of a problem.

Yes. Thousands over the years. If you want any hope of shooting them even remotely close to how a pellet shoots, a .22 is your best chance with a 500mm. But they still won’t outshoot a pellet in a pellets wheelhouse distances.

I appreciate your input. Thinking maybe a compact 22 and a 600mm .25 barrel might a good way to go.

These are Hybrids tested in just 2024 across FX and a couple other platforms. Lots of empty packs. The reason I test them is because I feel they are a ”safe slug”. Unfortunately they are rarely if ever the best slug. What always winds up happening is you wish you had more than 500mm of barrel so you can easily send the heavier stuff that shoot the best. But in .22, you have a better chance of pulling it off.

Well if you are busting out your credit card big time then the way most guys who don’t like chasing tunes go is to get a designated slug gun. Buy your FX pellet gun then switch brands and buy something that is a slug gun and will remain consistent. An inconsistent gun with pellets is hardly noticeable unless you’re one of those 100 yard bench rest guys. But a sensitive gun with slugs is a full time job keeping it on point. Unless you just like hitting cans or shooting ok groups.

So something like an AGT Vulcan 3 or Uragan 2? I've seen you and others comment on those in some other posts. I had originally thought of the Vulcan 3, but the smaller mags were a bit of a con to me. Guess in the long run it's not terrible if it does a better job. Trying to not stress the credit card too much, but I can already see this is going to be a slippery slope haha.

You can’t let magazine capacity be a deciding factor for a slug gun. Pellet gun, maybe. You will never get everything you want in any gun currently made. It’s impossible. With slugs you focus on the hard parts of a gun. But it mostly depends on how picky you are or your expectations. Are they realistic or I watched too many videos unrealistic.

If you do decide on a 500mm .25 you can PM me if you need a direction to go if you want to double down with projectiles.

Ordered a Wildcat MK3 BT Sniper in .30 that was priced too low to ignore. (Special thanks to @Trucker3573 for bringing it to my attention!) Not exactly what I was looking for but I couldn't pass it up. Considering getting a barrel kit to convert to either .22 or .25 at either 500 or 600mm but have some other things to get first. Super excited and now my journey into the rabbit hole continues... If anyone has a recommendation for a moderator for the .30, I'd welcome it.

Congratulations. A .30 moves a lot of air and that caliber, at least for me requires me testing several to determine what’s staying on the gun. I will say that a Huma has never wrecked any of my guns in any calibers accuracy. My STO in .30 is the king of silence, but it only ever worked, best accuracy wise, on one gun. Enjoy that thumper.
Thanks! Planning on trying out a few different pellets to get started and go from there. As for mods, Utah Airguns has recommended the Impulse Air 1350. The design is interesting and the idea of stacked baffle sections is intriguing compared to others on the market. The mod world is vast and paralysis of choice is real…
