I think the best bang for the buck will be the Coltri MCH6 compressor. I don't want to buy a Yong Heng every year and I refuse to rebuild them. The Alkin is obviously the Rolls Royce but the Coltri seems to offer so much dollar for dollar. Especially at their current "close-out" price.
Bauer is the Rolls Royce of air compressors in quality and in initial cost. Alkin is a BMW, Coltri is a Toyota. All nice machines, but ranking them in quality and performance I would rank them in that order. I agree with Mike that at that close out price the Coltri MCH-6 is an attractive buy.

Bauer @ 6k = 5 series BMW
Alkin @ 4.5k 3 series BMW
Coltri @ 2.5k would make it a Toyota Camry

OK so, Bauer is the RR of compressors - why is it not sold by any of the airgun dealers? Maybe because it is overkill and the Alkin is TOTL for airgunning?
Topgun Airguns in CA used to be a Bauer dealer. Bauer's "Rolls Royce" pricing has made them out of reach for the airgun market. Alkin prices have gone up by 33% in the past year. Their manual model was $3150 in December of 2021. Now it's no longer available and the automatic shutoff model is $4150. I predict they will see a sharp drop off in unit sales to airgunners @ $4K plus pricing. It's an excellent compressor but it's moved into Rolls Royce pricing territory. Previously I've posted on many occassions that Alkin is the best bang for the buck compressor. At current retail prices in the U.S. I think Coltri MCH6 takes over the best bang for the buck label.

@Humdinger I like this visual compressor comparison aid. Courtesy of @GA_LeadHead

I have to agree with everything you've said - thanks for the feedback!

Thought the same thing about the new pricing. May have crossed the threshold for much of the potential airgun market.
Bought mine just before the steep increases, & love the thing. Wouldn't try to talk anyone out of it at the new pricing if that's where their heart is set. But at the new price difference, I'd probably have gone MCH-6. Will be interesting to see where the MCH-6 replacement lands in the pricing tier.

And let's not forget Arctic... Bugatti?

Artic is definitely Bugatti class. Their compressors are made for commercial and industrial users. I've never seen or heard of any air gunners buying one for personal use. Their cheapest compressor cost $10K before the spike in inflation started. The Bauer Jr. II's are in the $5.5K range. It appears that the sale on Coltri MCH6's is to clear out inventory for their newer Icon line. The only difference I can see is that the Icon portables are aluminum framed for lighter carrying weight. I have no doubts that they will be above $3K when they become available.

Considering that the Coltri MCH-6 was $2795 @Nuvair before the sale, I suspect the Coltri Icon will cost over $3k after the MCH-6's are gone. Still a significant amount less than the Alkin, and way more compressor than airgunners truly need.
What airgunners truly need is reliability, durability, convenience, and resale value. How many air gunners truly need multiple high end PCPs? How many truly need $3K PCPs when Benjamin Marauders and Avengers have the same features for 1/10th the price of an Alpha Wolf, Leishy 2 or accessorized MK3 Impact? I wouldn't trade my Alkin W31 for every dollar I paid for it new 3 years ago. Each top off saves me 2 hours of time and $25 for gas and fill fees running to a dive shop. Given the current retail prices I could sell mine on this forum for a profit. The only maintenance I've had to do is a 20 minute oil change once a year.

If a manufacturer ever came out with a bullet proof compressor at $1K or under the world would beat a path to their door. I've been in this market for 23 years and haven't seen it yet. Durable 310 bar compressors are difficult to manufacture on the cheap.

Clearly you are happy with your purchase. The post was a response to the OP, regarding price vs. performance. The point being that the Coltri MCH-6 is a good deal, and more compressor than most airgunners need, at $2495....so why pay more?

It's a great deal.

I have 4 dive shops and 2 paintball shops within 5 minutes of me, and I still won't use them because I don't want to deal with the hassle. I can't imagine even THINKING about driving 2 hours for a fill like some people. No way in hell that would happen.

Can anyone who recently inquired about an Alkin W31 verify that they have dropped the manual model and are only offering the fully automatic model now? That just doesn't seem logical and I'm curious to know if it's fact or internet fake news. The fully automatic model with timed moisture bleed and pressure shutoff makes sense for a business which fills several tanks per day. Those features are nice but don't get used by an individual who tops off their tank weekly or less. It's logical to assume Alkin sells manual model W31s to individual shooters much more often than full auto models. W31 unit sales will drop dramatically in 2023 if $4150 is theri lowest retail price. Compressors are getting into Rolex pricing territory when they exceed $3,500 for an individual.
