I woke up this morning, walked by the window, and saw this guy sitting perfectly on the cut off trunk 92 yards from my window.
As I slowly open the window, Penny looked over from her bed very unimpressed. She used to get excited when I shot out the window, not anymore.
A week ago I took a squirrel out the window, we weren’t able to go retrieve it for about an hour. Penny was absolutely indifferent to it when We went out and found it. I thought it was because it was cold, no longer warm blood dripping from the body. Today I figured out that wasn’t the case. She does not approve of these long range shots that do not involve her.
I took this guy pure offhand from the window. I looked at it just like an offhand Field Target shot. I turned the power up to 50 X, focused, and then took the shot. One shot, offhand.
Penny and I went out to retrieve it right away. She walked up to it licked one little bit of blood off turned around and walked away. She wanted to go hunt…
The squirrel was sitting sideways on the stump, perfect silhouette. I put the crosshairs right where his head joins his body. It looks like I ended up hitting him right under the ear. Which makes sense because I’m cited in for 100 yards.
There was absolutely no wind, dead calm, one of the reasons I decided to take the shot. It was too good of a set up to walk away from. You could see the snowflakes gently drifting down.
