Considering purchase of a FWB 800X Field Target

Hi Guys,

I originally posted my question in the AGN Field Target forum, since my intended use is FT, but got not responses so am trying here.

I really like the look of the FWB 800X FT and how adjustable it is. Lots of good reviews. However, in my research here in old posts on AGN, folks are saying the FT model of the 800X experiences POI shifts due to the gun having a two-piece breach block. As I understand it, they were saying a scope mounts to two separate pieces of the breach, which causes the scope to shift a little as the gun expands/contracts from temperature changes. I'm looking at pics of the current iteration of the gun and it looks like the scope rail attaches to the same piece of the breach lock. Did FWB fix this issue in the current model, or am I misunderstanding something?

Here's a pic of the scope rail:

That 800x is the slickest looking pcp I've seen, love how they look! A guy used one for 2-3 years at our club but he was in his late 70's and I think that affected how well he shot?? It seemed that he didn't finish very high most of the time.

I tried a FWB 800 Basic at 12 fpe for FT but it had large poi shifts during matches so I sold it to guy that just wanted to shoot it at 10M indoors.

I know Doug and Vipha(spelling?) had custom one piece actions made for their P70's which I think is the trick to making these FWB's a solid FT rig.

I bought one of the earlier 6 fpe Steyr LG100's that came into the USA, had it modded by AZ for FT at 17.5 fpe, but it was sent back twice to him because the reg kept failing and because of other things like free floating the barrel, a friend then fixed the reg correctly but by this time I'd lost confidence in it and sold it to get a USFT which I never regretted. This worked out great for the guy I sold it to because he won a big match back east with it that year.

Personally I'd go for a Thomas or USFT for FT. Those are hard to beat because of how robustly they are built.

what class of FT are you planning on competing in?

Poi shifts don’t come only from the riel being on one piece of the action, if that was the case, only a couple rifles would experience this problem and it’s almost all of them.

That rifle is a nightmare, probably the worst on that regard of all the olympic rifles, probably because of these things:

The chassis touches the barrel on several points
The cylinder is connected with the chassis and barrel
Different materials being in touch

It’s a nice one, not gonna lie but you will miss many shots because of the rifle. If you are not that serious, it won’t be a problem but I like to think that if I miss, it’s me and not the equipment. Shooting ft without having 100% confidence, for me, it’s boring, you do everything correct and it shoots low or high.

I bought a Thomas and that thing just delivers, never had a bad day because of the rifle and that allowed my mind to concentrate on other smalls things I wasn’t able before

Thanks for all the responses, guys. I think I'm going keep doing my research, expand my options, and see what feels right for me. Thomas's are a little too expensive for me, at least for now.

As someone who have been in that situation, let me tell you it’s totally worth it. I paid twice the retail price in the US to import it to my country and still would do it again. Buy once, cry once. Don’t know how it is now but when I bought it, you needed to make a deposit and the rest when it will be ready to ship. I used that time to get the extra bills I needed
