Considering purchase of FWB 800X FT

Forced position (kneeling/standing) is just part of the game, and I like it that way. They challenge me, and sometimes it's a frustrating challenge, but a fun challenge none-the-less.

To be at the top, shooter has to knock down targets on the open position lanes too though. If you wanna win, you gotta knock down ALL, or nearly all the targets, from all positions. No (or very few) oopsies, mess-ups, or general brain-farts are made by the winners.

Taking out the forced position shots (or almost just as bad, making them standing bipod) is moving the entire field target affair in the direction of benchrest.
Cole, I never said to remove them or make them standing with bipod, at least I don't think I did. I just suggested if Forced Position is so crucial just do the whole course that way. Make it all half standing, half kneeling. That way you'll really be challenged...

No, you didn't say to do away with them.

I was just reading between the lines about what seems to be your general opinion of the forced position stuff, supported by the changes you're trying to make to extreme ft rules (yet again without shooter involvement, but that's another story and one that has already been hashed to death, apparently without any positive effect-no need to go down that road again since you're gonna do what you want, regardless).

But for regular ft, no need to make em 50/50 standing/kneeling though, that's just craziness. I like a good challenge, but don't want to be completely demoralized!

Gotcha... You are correct on my opinion of offhand, but I'll still shoot FT and live with it. I'll just never get a good score since I don't really care enough to practice offhand or kneeling, but I do like shooting Hunter FT position (bucket and sticks). And I already have enough little medallions.

Yeah, we don't need to go down that road on EFT again, especially since 4 out of 5 MDs voted recently for 2023 to make Forced Position Lanes in EFT GP series standing with bipod, and 1 of 5 had no opinion - plus the additional 3 on the BOD voted for standing with bipod also. No dissenters. But EFT matches other than that can be whatever the MD wants, including standing on your head and shooting upside down...

Match directors aren't regular shooters, and of course they're all going to agree to go with what the mouthpiece of the sole sponsor is suggesting.

While I wouldn't be surprised to see most regular shooters also agree to make the change you suggested, this is an example of what I've been saying all along about how there needs to be some transparency in the creation of what extreme ft is becoming. You don't like true offhand shots, so you leveraged your position to change the rules. In this particular case most other shooters would have probably voted the same. But what about the next time you want to make a change that perhaps the majority won't agree with?

Public input and transparency are important.

As for the little medals, nobody that's serious about being competitive in field target is there for the medals.

(If you want to discuss it further publicly, we should probably make a new thread. Although I'm not sure what else I could say that I haven't already a bunch of times. If you want to discuss it personally, you've got my number.)

@K9bite,

@steve123 gave you some excellent advice on your other thread: https://www.airgunnation.com/thread...-a-fwb-800x-field-target.1277752/post-1359940

He gave me the same advice 4 or 5 years ago and I followed it by going with a USFT. 4+ years on this side of the purchase of a high-end PCP for FT (which seems to be where you're at right now) I don't regret following his suggestions even a slight bit.
Thanks Steve. The Thomas's do seem pretty cool. A couple of the top benchrest shooters in our club shoot them.

About the other post, I wrote the one in this forum first, but didn't get any responses for 24 hours, so tried the PCP forum. I couldn't figure out how to delete one or combine them together.

Sounds like it was a fun day!
Omigod. It was a blast. Next steps is attending some matches. I have a bunch of traveling for the next six weeks. But I need to get down to ABQ and thought along with that I could work in a trip to Phoenix for the Sonora thing. After that go to AoA and try out some rifles. Maybe between those two I'll get a better idea of what sounds good to shoot. There's a 10M place nearby so I thought I could use that for basics then go out to the country to do some longer distance practicing. Then back down to Ashland. Maybe by the summer I'll feel ready to join in.

Just an update to my original post. After considering the advice here, talking to guys at my club, and other research, I decided to get a Thomas. Paid my deposit today and now starts the 9-12 months wait. Thanks again, guys.
Very cool.

What tube/barrel length did you go with? And did you opt for the one that can switcheroo to be pistol ft legal?

No, I went with the 18" and the 250cc tube. I considered the 15" for pistol option. I like the idea of being able to use as pistol, but realistically I don't think I ever would and otherwise 18" fits my needs better. That part was an easier decision than picking a color (ha!). I chose black, but still wonder if I'd like blue better.

Thank you guys. So I shouldn't count the FWB out then.

I probably should have said earlier that I'm brand new to field target, and only become serious about airgunning in general this last year (primarily shooting benchrest in local club matches). My current gun is an FX Royale in .22, that I can shoot under 20, with 13 gr or lighter pellets. My scope is good/not great but lacks the ability to accurately range find using parallax. After talking to the more FT oriented folks at my club, I decided to upgrade my scope first (just bought a Sightron SIII FT this afternoon) and save a little more money the next couple of months before buying a new gun for FT. So, I've got time to figure out what I really need/want in a gun for FT. I live near Airguns of Arizona and while I was there a couple times this week, I held the FWB (was for a leftie and I'm a rightie) and it is as sexy looking as it is in the pictures. I also was looking at the Red Wolf with the PRS chassis, which could be outfitted for both hunter or WFTF. Plus, the gun could be adapted for things other than just FT. So many choices.

Todd
Todd,

I'm just starting out in Hunter this year as well and I just did that with the Red Wolf. I have a RAW TM1000 (NIB), but also wanted a Red Wolf. AOA is putting together the Red Wolf in a PRS chassis now with a few other additions. I was looking at Lauren's edition, but wanted a more industrial look for now, and when I seen the PRS chassis, I knew that was the one. I also want a Thomas specifically set up for WFTF, and the Red Wolf will also eventually be set up for WFTF and then I will have two awesome guns out of a lot of awesome guns to choose from to compete with. What about the TM1000? Haven't decided if I'm going to shoot it or not.
