Copper plated slugs

It would be interesting to see.

I shoot a reduced load in my 40S&W semi auto pistol and I can go as low as 2.8grs of powder with lead 155's sized .001" over, but with the same weight copper washed bullet sized .001" over I have to put in .3gr more powder to both make the gun function and to get the same velocity. So I think copper adds a bit more barrel drag compared to a lead bullet with a wax ring on it.

Very easy to experiment with at home.

Copper Sulfate

First degrease slugs with acetone and dry. Put all the slugs into the distilled water/copper sulfate solution at once so that they're all touching and stick the + copper wire into them so that it maintains contact. After plating a quick acid dip or tumbling will leave them bright and shinny like a new penny. If you acid dip wash thoroughly before use. 2 or 3 volts is better than the 9v battery in the video with a high copper sulfate solution. The longer you leave them plating the greater the copper thickness. You can always add more.

What's the thickness of that copper plate job. Your plating looks nice.
I tried plating a few slugs without getting the Copper Sulfate, Sulfuric Acid, Muriatic Acid and conditioner with lame results.
Tried a couple DYI type - vinager/hydrogen peroxide mix(n) and the a baking soda/salt. (n)
Was planning to get the right materials together. Just got busy experimenting with powder coating.
I'll have to setup a good tank with the right ingredients. Already bought the motor to rotate them in the bath.

They’re being professionally plated from a local shop…still working out cost effectiveness.
Field testing in copper plated .25 (shown in pics) and they still have explosive expansion in pigeons. Haven’t field tested nickel plated slugs yet.
Advantage is no barrel fouling.
Optimal twist rate for all calibers (.22, .25, .30 & .35) is 1:24 twist. It has to do with the gyroscopic flywheel rim effect of my patented design.
My patents finally came through in June of 2022. One is for a 2S Spitzer pellet and the second is for my hollow core.
Looking at large scale plating (think .22LR) so powder coating wouldn’t be cost effective.
