Counterfeit scope on Amazon?

Buyer beware for anyone new to this brand that may not be aware...

The seller, "TERMINATOR CHN" is a brand new seller that "just launched" on Amazon. Whoever it is, they are trying to sell a "Discovery" scope that does not seem to exist. The only other place I could find it was aliexpress, which has it's own fleas in terms of dealing with counterfeit merchandise:

https://www.amazon.com/Discovery-6-24X50-Tactical-MIL-DOT-Reticle/dp/B07Q3RWZHW/ref=sr_1_17?m=AV7X2RSGUILG7&marketplaceID=ATVPDKIKX0DER&qid=1554438792&s=merchant-items&sr=1-17

Even the lettering looks suspicious in the photos.

Hmm.

Discovery actually has quite a few models of scopes,
and most people have never even hard of the 1/2 of them.. You can double check their website:

http://www.discovery-sports.com/product/Riflescopes/VT_R/

That's the VT-R series, and the one in question seems to be listed a few models down

I always use the same [Horizon] seller via Amazon when ordering my Disco scopes, BUT,
I also ONLY order them when Amazon is the one fulfilling the order. [PRIME]
That way, no matter what, they've got the buyer covered.

And here's the Exact Page for the scope in question - From Discovery's website:

It appears that from the photos - The 'authentic scope' and the one listed on Amazon are the same..

👍

Sam -

PS: When in doubt though.. Always find out about the seller / place or origin / their connection.
I've gone direct and through 'middle men' countless times when buying from China over the years.

Im not the least bit surprised. I still buy stuff from Amazon an ebay but there are a lot of things I would never buy from them at this point. This Chinese have invaded with counterfeits and its a very serious issue. Bad thing is that both Amazon and ebay just see more profit. I think that Amazon is making a real attempt at stopping it where ebay just wants you to think that they are.

I guess I stand corrected...

It was a bit of a knee-jerk when I first saw the listing on Amazon from the "new" seller. I have bought through ApexHorizon as well with no issues at all and they are not offering this scope yet.

The three original offerings in the VT-R line (the 3-12x42mm, 4-16x42mm, and 6-24x42mm AOE's) all look almost identical to each other and somewhat similar in theme to the other scope lines they have had. It seemed weird to see a scope under the same VT-R model line that looked nothing like what the originals did.

On that note, it's interesting that they added side-focus, 50mm objective and a 30mm tube... But I don't like that they took away the push-lockable tactical turrets and the IR. I guess if you want to keep it cheap you have to cut corners somewhere.

My bad.

ok amazon shopaholic here ... duh .. I only but Prime stuff

Oh I am as well, 33 orders in the last 6 months. Not 33 products... complete orders.

That said, I sent the link for that particular "seller" to Discovery Optics' direct sales email address. Their response was very interesting... In so many words, they thanked me ("Ella") and said that they are pursuing fraudulent sales of their products.

Now, that is up for interpretation. Discovery has two Amazon storefronts, I've bought twice now from one of them that utilizes Prime. Their wording may suggest that the "new" seller on Amazon is taking part in resale of their products as an unauthorized distributor. It may also suggest that there was something else fishy going on there given that it was a new seller with zero ratings or feedback (could be a complete scam). Who knows.

"Ella" did ask me though if I was interested in another scope, so I inquired on upcoming models and pricing. 😊

I don't know if this is an air rifle scope, or a scope you were looking at for a powder burner.

If you are looking for an inexpensive 6x-24x X 50mm scope, I'd suggest looking at this one.

This Ebay seller is great as well. I ordered a red dot from her and it took way longer than her expected delivery time. I emailed her to be sure my order had been processed, and she sent me a new red dot. The new one arrived in two days, and two days after that the original one appeared (a total of 23 days since she shipped it). The seller was more than happy to accept a return but I decided to keep both so just PayPal'ed her the money for the second one.

If you don't like Ebay, the same scope can be found on Amazon.

I have 5 of this scope and they all work great on my .22 and .223 powder burners which I shoot from 50' to 200 yards.

Not the best glass? Perhaps, but I figure if I can see .22 holes on paper at 200 yards the glass is good enough for my shooting skills.

I have no experience with this scope on air rifles.

I've actually owned one of the CvLife scopes. Honestly it's not bad at all for the price, and they might do well on several powder-burners. I am just nervous to use them on a springer. For $30 more a Discovery scope can be easily had, and honestly the difference to my eyes is night and day. Even if the rest of the build was the same, I prefer spending a few extra just to have the better glass that the Discovery offers.
