25 yards. It turned its head around as I squeezed the trigger but it still dropped in its tracks.

Yes they always seem to be moving. 



I tried a different technique this time. I laid the IR light on the floor. That way the animal could not see it moving. Seems to have reduced the spook. Just a guess. I'll be doing that again next time. Only trade off here is the light doesn't cover the target areas as well. You could see it was half in the "shade" which made it a bit harder to see. Still learning..
