Crap weather, backyard range, pellet testing my new Uragan 2

Terrible but very much needed weather down here in Tasmania, Australia this past week. A week ago the ground was dry as a bone heading into our Aussie Summer. We switched over to our last tank of rainwater which meant rationing the water, giving ourselves restrictions on showers and water usage etc. We have dams for watering though luckily.
Then, out of nowhere the weather turned! 4 days of almost constant rain. All our water tanks are full and overflowing, dams and creeks full and raging, and our road into home is half washed away. I think close to 300mm or 12 inches of rain.

Anyway, today the weather has eased up some so I finally got to do a little slug testing on the new Uragan 2.
My oldest boy (18) works at the gunshop in town, so last week I dropped him off into work, and came back home with a new AGT Uragan 2, Good trade I reckon!
Wind still coming and going, and a few small showers had me abandon our shotgun/shooting range in favour of a makeshift indoor range shooting out of my messy workshop. It's not pretty but it got me shooting! I used a pile of timber as my seat, and a camp table for a bench. Not awesome, but plenty good for a rough Sunday arvo.

It looks like my .22 700mm Uragan 2 favours the .217 slugs. As yet, I've only managed to get hold of H&N and Zan slugs so hit me up with other suggestions to try, but both are shooting best in the .217, and both in the 25gn at around 970 fps. So far I've not bothered to chase more power, so shooting it as it came, and I guess it makes sense that it likes 25gn?

At 40m / 44 yards most slugs were grouping just under an inch, but the 25gn would pull back in nicely to 0.3/0.4 ish. A couple random one hole wonders but mostly averaged out to 0.4 inch.
Still blowing a gale I thought I'd try the last few H&N 25's from the sample pack at 75m/82y. Considering the wind I, was still pretty happy with the average grouping of just over an inch. I didn't even measure it to be honest but it'd be 1 1/2 at the most I'd say. Then for about a minute the wind died to a breeze and gave me just enough time to squeeze off a quick decent group. Measured at 0.713 so nicely sub moa. Good enough for today so packed everything up before the weather got too hectic again.

I'll have to wait for some better weather and some more slugs to stretch it out further, but I'll be super happy if I can get this gun to shoot moa at 100m. Looking like it'll do it, but I'll have to wait and see.

Keep us updated on your projectile test. I have been interested in the u2 rifle. Will it be a good rifle for small game hunting? Your thoughts on it being a good rifle to carry? Etc thanks
Will do.
Yeah I am hoping so. My plan for this gun is a walk around hunting gun for possums, rabbits and wallaby's. It's my first bullpup, and first gun I'll be running slugs in so is kinda fun getting used to it.
The bipod ends up in a poopty spot for offhand shooting I feel, so I'll get an extended rail to move that further up the front. It balances really well, not a light gun, but when supported under the bottle it seems almost light.
The old Hawk Sidewinder I have on it is a bit heavy too. I plan on putting a nice day/night NV scope but need to find something that isn't too heavy, not too pricey, but still has great day time image.

@spaana love those guns, especially the compacts.

I thought guns were outlawed in OZ, even air guns. Do you just need a license to get them?
Yeah, so our government and media love to carry on about how good our gun laws are, that we stripped the country of all guns and all gun violence.
Reality is, it's actually fairly easy to get firearms here in Australia, but you do need a licence even for air guns.
Air pistols are in the same licence category as handguns though, and the only way to get a licence for a handgun is for competition shooting, so club shoots.

Years ago, in my early teens, I actually ordered 3 co2 air pistols from Pyramid Air. I got one here through our customs, was a little gamo p23, heaps of fun with that little thing. I got that confiscated by the police a few years later, but thats another story on its own haha.

We legally are not allowed to use or own firearms for the purpose of self defense.
Generally we can only get a gun licence for sport/club shooting, recreational shooting/hunting, or primary production/farming.

Different states have different laws. My home state of Western Australia is just going through a gun licence reform right now. The poor buggers are getting reamed over there now. New laws coming in just to strip more guns off people. Most gun owners will be limited to owning only 5 guns. Fortunately here in our new home state of Tas, we don't have as many restrictions, and we have a good hunting culture to keeps it going.

Basically, most Australians could get a gun if they wanted/needed one, we just have a load more restrictions than you guys. Damn it!

Hi

I also just own a Uragan 2 700 in .22
Also shooting the 25 gr slugs and it seems the .217 does it the best.

The accuracy will improve with my gun when I remove the shroud.

In this picture you see in the yellow circle a 5 shot group without the shroud, all the other groups is with shroud. All shot at 100 meters.

I took the shroud apart and the insert is quite strange

Made a rail so I can put the bipod in the front of the gun.

And made a sleeve over the bottle, looks nicer and for protection.

Made adjustments to the trigger, the stock needs to be removed.

Made the FX V2 chrony attached to the airrifle.

Now the barrel is out of the gun, need to polish it at the transfer point. It is sharp and will affect the slug when it is inserted.

Next thing to do is to make a bagrider for easier shooting from the bench.

I am sorry if my writing is not ok.

Gr from The Netherlands

We do not have any airgun power limitations, yust need to be 18.
No replica allowed.

@keesbo Looking like you have your U2 pretty well sorted?
Did the accuracy improve or become more consistent after you polished the barrel burrs out? I've not even had the stock off yet.
Interesting about the shroud affecting the accuracy. The shroud on mine isn't even a working shroud. The shroud ends at the end of the barrel, so no void Infront of the barrel at all.
Here in Australia a baffled shroud is seen as a silencer, even an empty shroud is seen as an incomplete silencer. So our customs has instructed that all shrouded airguns be modified before being imported, to prevent them being baffled/silenced.
Shrouds in themselves aren't illegal though, any airgun that came into the country before they made that ruling is still legal.
Bloody loud without the shroud though isn't it!
I'll possibly look into making a carbon fibre shroud, if for nothing else it'll look a bit better with the shroud extending past the bottle a bit.
