Crazy expansion from .22 cal Nielsen 17.5 gr. HP on chipmunk.

Leaving the barrel around 900 fps from RTI Priest. Chipmunk a short 10 yards away. Slug entered cheek and lodged under skin half way down the spine.

This is my go-to small pest combo but have also taken quite a few squirrels with it for the plate.

That's a nice small grain slug in 22 caliber. I use them out of my kral puncher breaker and they are pushing about 890 to 900 fps and easily out perform the jsb 18 gr. I have taken birds and ground squirrels out to 100 yards and they are sweet. I am getting the prophet shortly.

The nsa slugs 17.5gr are very compatible with my Edgun r5m 22cal that’s the only slugs that I have settled on but the nsa 20.2 slugs shoot very well also. The nsa 20.2 slugs are a little more hold sensitive than the 17.5, with that being said very content I have not purchased any more jsb 18gr. It’s not that don’t shoot well but the slugs when they impact a bird sounds like a firecracker going off! No kidding it’s that loud.

They do indeed. I can tell the difference between a hit or miss with my eyes closed. They anchor critters with aplomb.

Would you have the muzzle velocity that you are shooting the 17.5 and the 20.2 at?



At what distances do you get this awesome firecracker sound?

Have you found that pigeons are more firecracker or less firecracker than other species?

The 17.5 slugs are @920fps , the 20.2 I forgot but I would guess 880fps. The next time I have the chrony out I will post the speed.

Also I did have it shooting 17.5 @1000 FPS but I slowed it down because when I run out of slugs I can still shoot the jsb 18gr. The thing is that the 18 gr pellets are shooting @930’s and do not do well at faster speeds. Plus I get more shots per fill and slugs have to be seated to stay in place in the clip it takes a little more time.

thanks for that info. Those velocities/ power levels should be within my reach without extra $$. Cool. 

I really need this quarantine to be done so I can go slug testing again — Peru is one of the countries with the most severe restrictions worldwide....



I'm still interested in the specifics at what maximum ranges I typically could expect what Doom players would call glory kills — the firecracker sound!  
(Provided I tune my gun to the muzzle velocity you stated.)
