I guess $800 is the new budget gun market 😂 not for me.. that’ll buy you a much better rifle in the gently used market!

I look at things like this a bit differently.
Cost of idea?
Cost of design?
Cost of materials?
Cost of labor?
Cost of equipment to make the product and costs to maintain that equipment and facilities?
Cost to package products ?
Cost to insure infrastructure?
Cost of liability insurance?
Costs of environmental issues?
Cost to protect a patent?
Cost to advertise?
Cost to pay sales facilities and people?
Costs to get product to a warehouse
and insure products?
Cost of after market warranty support?
I probably missed a few costs?

Yep…. Everything costs something!

Gun sounds less expensive now.

It’s supply and demand
Airgun’s are a small market relative to the powder burner market
That said, try inventing and bringing a product to market and it won’t take long for you to appreciate the nuances associated with the process. I did forget about the fair profit margin for manufacturing and selling!

Profit margin, profit margin, profit margin

Everyone deserves to make a good living, but in the business world, striking a balance between profit and costs is very difficult
The prices will regulate the market. When these companies get too greedy the public will decide how much they really need another air rifle and stop paying the inflated prices. The same thing happened in the early 2000s with the motorcycle market. They out priced themselves out of a good thing. They are practically giving old Harleys away now. Same thing will happen to air guns. Any items that are a hobby has a ceiling price that people will reach then move on to the next new thing. There will always be some that remain in the hobby but as people move on companies will get fewer and fewer. The slotcar craz is another example. Was a huge thing back in the 60s. It is still around but very small following.
