Crosman 1322 performace

Picked up a 1322 because it was there (and very inexpensive). Goal was to get 500fps and around 8FPE. I figured that I would be lucky to get 6.5FPE without extensive mods.

Modifications- Steel breech assembly, that's it.

Other than that, bone stock. I ran it through the chrono, and was pleasantly surprised!

14.3 grain Crosman Premier Hollow Point

3 Pumps- 304fps

6 Pumps- 406fps

10 Pumps- 483fps

11 Pumps- 505fps

12 Pumps- 510fps

These are 5 shot averages, and deviation was no greater than 6fps. With H&N 18.13 grain pellets I am getting a tiny bit more FPE, but lose almost 40fps. I am going to stick with the 14.3 for now.

I was thinking that I was going to have to go down some modding rabbit hole to get the 500fps I wanted. With a stock pistol and steel breech, I get my 500 with 11 pumps. It's an 11 pumper. This great, as it minimizes wear and tear and only exceeds the recommended 10 pumps by one. No real gain by going to 12 pumps.

I am just going to concentrate on getting the trigger up to snuff, but power-wise I am there. I think Crosman upped their game on the 1322.

My pellets are JSB Match Jumbo Diabolo, 15.89 gr, but the average of 5 from my tin was 15.93 gr

For my 1322 (when it was brand new - no mods at all): Average of 5 shots at the number of pumps specified

3 Pumps - 288 fps (2.93 FPE)

6 Pumps - 390 (5.38)

10 Pumps - 458 (7.42)

11 Pumps - 465 (7.65)

12 Pumps - 493 (8.59)

If I remember, I'll run some 14.3 gr pellets through it tomorrow. I think I have some JSB Exact Match Jumbo Express Diabolo, 14.3 grainers.

I probably only do average of three shots each - too much pumping,

Great. I am looking forward to the results. I was very impressed with mine.

The Super Sear is about the best trigger mod you can do to these 13xx 22xx guns. The stock units will make the trigger much better and the adjustable ones will make it excellent.

Thanks! I will get the adjustable.

I purchased the version from EBAY, and it is very light and crisp (single stage and no slack at all!), but I was experiencing hammer to sear drag on my Don Cothran 2260 PCP build---made me think my PCP (no gauge) had a leak, as it would not fire/release air anymore.

Upon airing it up, I noticed that that gauge on my hand pump read that it still had about 2500 PSI, so I replaced the trigger assembly with another one, cocked the action, then pulled the trigger--it went bang, of course, lol!

Perhaps it is the way the stainless Don Cothran Roller Trigger kind of elevates the rear section of sear due to its higher than normal orientation.

I may have to relieve the 22xx hammer of some material for it to work, but to reiterate, I like the trigger pull so much!

To clarify, it goes BANG if I pull the trigger aggressively, but I am so accustomed to ever so slightly pull triggers with just the tip of my finger.

Those numbers are similar to what I was seeing in my 1322. With 15 grain JSBs I got 462 fps with 10 pumps (7.5 FPE), 528 fps with 20 pumps (9.8 FPE), and just for the hell of it, with 50 pumps 573 fps for around 11.6 FPE.

I was very happy with mine's numbers. Not much a gain for a lot more work! I have been shooting at 11 pumps for a lot of rounds now, and it's holding steady around the high 480's to low 5's.

I read somewhere (can't remember where) that Crosman was making their pistons stiffer these days. It gives the 1322 / 1377 the same effect as the stuffing the piston mod.

Hardairmagazine did a write up on the new 1377's awhile back. It was showing their velocity at 10 pumps to be approximately 552 fps w/ a 7.9 gr CPL for 5.25 fpe. Somewhat higher than the 515 fps / 4.7 fpe at 10 pumps that they used to have. I'd expect their velocity at 11-12 pumps to be higher yet.

500 fps / aprox 8 fpe w/ 11-12 pumps though w/ the new 1322's is outstanding. PA and AGD are selling them for $60.

515 fps / 8 fpe at 4 pumps w/ my Benji 392 will penetrate both sides of a soup can at 15 yards. That's always been my baseline for squirrels or rabbits. It's nice to know the new 1322's are now capable of that.

Yup, the p1322 /1377 piston is made from a much stiffer plastic than the older models. Looks to be glass filled nylon or similar. The piston is also a bit longer and the valve cone is reshaped to fit the pump cup better. They can make pretty good power compared to the 1377c valve and piston. My 1322 carbine project with a 14.6" barrel is in the high 590s low 600s on 12 pumps with 14.3gr. Only valve mod was to smooth out the 90 degree angle in the exhaust port. Porting is stock diameter.

High 590's / low 600's is what my own Backpacker does after I flat topped the piston and valve w/ a set from alchemy airwerks & got a Boss Buddy transfer port for it & a Disco hammer spring. I too have the 14.6 inch barrel. Mine used to be my favorite airgun until I acquired a 12 inch barrel, LDC and shoulder stock for my flat topped 1377. It has all of the same mods as the .22. My 'new' homemade 1389 is the airgun I have been using the most lately. I've been taking a lot of hosps w/ it.

I just got this back recently from Tim at Mac1. He added his accuracy and power tunes on my 1322 and now it's super consistent and puts out good fpe. That includes him making a flat top valve/piston and his custom stronger piston.

With 10 pumps and a 10 shot string, 15 grain JSBs, avg 500 fpe, spread 6 fps, std dev 2.1 fps, about 8.8 fpe. Super accurate even I can shoot it well.
