Crosman 1701P carbine

Well after trying to find a gun to shoot at close ranges for pesting I have finally decided to make my own. Some of my best pesting guns ironically in the past have been a Crosman 1701P and a Beeman R7. 4-7fpe .177 guns that slayed many sparrows to even pigeons at close ranges under 20yds. Both bone stock with open sights. Liked both for what they were. The 1701P for the ultra compact size, PCP with excellent trigger and accuracy, however I'm not the best shot with a pistol. The R7 with the lightweight short length carbine size easy to shoot offhand and cock. However at 38" it wasn't compact and harder to shoot in tighter places. Both were sold long ago when I got into higher end guns.

So after all kinds of thinking of what I could do decided that I kinda wanted a combination between the 2. A super short, low powered carbine that I can use on the farm. While I do think Edgun Leshiys are fantastic guns for what I want by the time I'm done with it it's too much money for what the gun is needed for.

So I have a 1701P on the way. I ordered a RAI AR stock adapter for it as I have a spare stock already. And an gonna top it off with a Bushnell TRS-25 that I've had for awhile and enjoy. With that combo I should have a great little carbine with benefits of both guns.

^^^^^^^^what this guys said!!!! If you turn up the HS a little you will get about 500 FPS which is perfect! Then do the oring buffer mod and done! It’s going to be sick! You won’t be target shooting with it because it’s down right boring one hole all day, every day!

OR if you want just a little more power get the 1720T high power TP and with the oring mod you can get a really flat 650FPS with the crosman pointed pellet. I dropped a big squirrel at 43 yards except mine is a 1720t carbine, you will just have around 10 shots less per fill.

Dairyboy, you will love it. I made this one for grandson and he put the smack down on sparrows. I switched out the tp to a .067 from 1720.

Good deal guys! I'm really unsure the route I want to go with it honestly. In both tune and noise. I think I'm going to shoot with it as is tune wise for awhile and see what my shot count and string looks like. Ideally I don't want to add any length to the gun but we'll see if I think it's too loud. I don't think there very loud but having a dead silent little gun would be cool too.

they are not loud, are accurate and you get a lot of shots from a fill.

I have a wood stock for mine as the plastic is plastic and too small for me.

The wood stock is around $200,the better one is $350,They can be used on other model Crossmans.

Just curious on which stock do you have?

I tried on the RAI adapter and AR stock on my 1701 and I really like it! Going to find a way to make it lighter!

I would gut this out see if the 1701p fits.

This is bad! At this rate I’m gonna “need” another 1701P.......this madness needs to stop. Odoyle, this is all your fault!

trying out the RAI adapter and AR stock from the 1720T. This is really sweet little gun!!! Although the folding adaptor feels heavy with stock and tube so I ordered an eBay carbon tube to see if I can get something rigged up that’s light. Ordered a better scope so I can see at 34 yards and with no wind it has no issue with hitting a quarter with a 27 dollar scope. Still will keep it under 25 yards for those sneaky little house sparrow, they are getting very skittish.

will call about the challenger, it’s 400 bucks shipped? That’s a little nutty!!

did some penetration test on a piece of pine board I had laying around. Stock everything on the 1701P except for the oring buffer mod which tunes it down a little. Very consistent average speed of 480fps with the 7.4 pointed crosman pellet and 470 FPS with 7.9 hollow point. Under 20 yards there should be no question on house sparrows and rat kills, most likely there will be pass through with the pointed pellets. At 30 yards both pellets should have good kills and unlikely for pass through.

It’s almost like that Odoyle dude have done this kind of stuff before.......... lol

No wish to Jack your thread here but liked your test here and wanted to share.

I produced an almost identical test to yours here with a variety of pellets for my modified Walther LP53 making approx 510 Fps for similar results here. Obviously my gun runs out of accuracy beyond about 15 yards (my maximum range) but i came away with a very interesting result which may interest you.

For some reason Falcon Accuracy plus seem to retain almost all their energy over the distance i am shooting. It was also born out in controlled tests performed by the English Tuner Jim Tyler. For some reason, this average looking Dome pellet is bucking the trend of heavy pellets retaining more energy (law of Physics) but we do not really know why.

My best guess...they somehow buck wind resistance due to aspects of its geometry to get around the law physics reg weight. It is only a 7.9 grain pellet so it has to be its aerodynamic quality. This was also Jim Tylers guess but he was not sure.

Anyhow, forgetting all that, i risked 3 shots over the Chrony placed at 12 yards and was still getting 480 fps at point of impact from my gun from a M.V of 518 Fps...Give them a try if you want to.
