Crosman 2200 Magnum - Disassembly and rebuild = reinstated pester

She is back in business!!!😍
Ordered a new valve, transfer seal, and pump cup.
Came in about 1:45pm
Got to work. Made sure to takes lots of pictures bc I only found 1 other source of pictures online.
Less than an hour later and had it all done!😱😏
Function tested a.couple dry fires. Loaded a Hades.
WHAAMMM!!
SHE HOWLED!!🤩🤗
So I slapped another in and grabbed the chrono.
Back to factory numbers!🥹
My first.full teardown/tinker🤓🤪🤙

Start here. Remove that screw. There is a nut on the other side that has a.mold in the plastic so that it sits flush when tightened. Removing the screw will allow you to rive both HALVES of black plastic.
20230717_133853.jpg

Roll pin to punch out under that black plastic cover.
20230717_134557.jpg

Used a wooden stake to get enough wood under everything while still being level.
20230717_134604.jpg

Halfway out.
20230717_134609.jpg

Flipped the stake so that the pin had enough room to get out the rest of the way.
20230717_134637.jpg

There is a cap in the end that you can now remove after pin removed.
20230717_134730.jpg

It has a distinct shape.
20230717_134734.jpg

The fully.slotted side goes.towards the pump handle.
20230717_134739.jpg

The other side toward the barrel.
20230717_134743.jpg

That pin also holds the pump arm. So now you can slide out that whole assembly without removing the handle.
20230717_134810.jpg

Mine was gunky. So I cleaned her up and put some oil on her.
20230717_134817.jpg

Of you are JUST replacing the cup. You can stop there.(the pump cup is on the end of the assembly attached to the pump handle. Use a cloth to get friction and grab/twist until it pops off. To install the new on I put a dab of oil on and it popped right into place of the old one.
20230717_135001.jpg

3screws! These 3 screws will start the journey to inside. Once removed. There is a spring...in front of the trigger guard. Just make sure your that area is Pointed at you. If it springs out it lands in your lap.
20230717_135200.jpg

I took it apart sloooowly to peak in before. That spring.
20230717_135122.jpg

Once in half; you have this. The buttstock is also tied into this. However it has holes and a nice ridge to line it up.
20230717_135152.jpg

Close up
20230717_135208.jpg

This barrel is "shrouded". It slides.off after your halves are apart.

Safety closeup
20230717_135344.jpg

That spring...can stay like that to hold it in place.

Close up for Hammer area.
Without safety/trigger assembly. Where my fingers are: lift and the valve tube is free. Do not let go. My index finger is holding in the back piece of the hammer "assembly". After you lift, slowly release index finger(only about half inch) and it's free.
20230717_135547.jpg

The safety pieces removed and set aside

The hammer "assembly"
That black plastic piece is the piece in the previous pictures.

This post lines up in a groove on the tube

20230717_135656.jpg

To get the valve out, it must go forward. I used my cleaning rod.
20230717_135916.jpg

Then she pops out of the end.

New vs old
20230717_135949.jpg

Old one's transfer port is near gone...i saw a TRACE of material...

All apart.

Bolt probe is plastic and looked chewed on. Sanded it round and smooth before reinstall.
20230717_141857.jpg

Took a bit but lined up the new valve in there.
20230717_141744.jpg

Bolt.probe piece
20230717_141910.jpg

It broke a bit. Just the part that cover the loading area...still functional though

20230717_143958.jpg

Probably try and find a new one down the road but ehh...
20230717_144006.jpg

Got.it back together. Oiled her up. Let the oil sit for a.minute. pumps 3 times n fired. Sounded good. Pumped 5 times. Ooo louder. Pumped 10 times and grabbed the chrono with a Jsb Hades.
WHAAMMM! Right in the factory numbers area!😍
20230717_150724.jpg

All back together.

That probe/cover was the downfall of mine. Don't know what plastic they used to make it, but it literally turned to dust when I dragged it out to see how it was doing after 30some years. No one had any spares, so ended up getting one 3d printed.
I can't remember the site I found that had all the little touch ups that can be done for improvements. I'll try and look around to see if I can find it.
Great job on getting yours back up and running. 👏 (y)

Thanks! I'd love to find a replacement. Wish it wasn't all straight plastic🥴
There is the bolt probe itself as a replacement piece...but I don't see how bc it's one piece😅unless I just didn't "pry" out the bolt during teardown. It seemed to be one piece but I could be wrong🥹

Unfortunately, it's all one molded piece. I was mad as heck when I found out. I managed 2 or 3 shots before I found the probe part stuck in the breech and grit from what was left of it covering the rest of the chamber.
I used the assembly out of a 2100 for specs to have the replacement made. I only had to make a few adjustments to get it close to original and lengthened the probe to get the pellet past the transfer port.

Great write up. Could have used this back when I refurbed mine.
A couple of tips of the trade: Dirty hands in pictures means more credibility. Just dont have any coke nails. Also, if you bleed at any point during the tear down, that's instant credibility.
:ROFLMAO:
Thanks!😂 I was surprised at how dirty it WASNT in some areas. Only part that was really gunky was the piston.
I got a scratch but it didn't bleed🥹been cut enough times I don't really notice when I do get cut, just makes me more determined 😵‍💫🤣
Oh I hate my nails long...they get about a few MM and I clip em....speaking of....😆

Nice report.
I had one of these back in the day, with the satin finish receiver, using 10 pumps it would make 10 ft lbs with heavy ish pellet ...Bisley Magnums from memory ...
Had a ridiculously big scope on it, but a lot of fun.
How were your irons?
The only other write up I found online said he had lots of barrel wobble in the breech. Mine was rock solid. Maybe that's why his irons weren't so good?...🤷‍♂️ but he then I think jb welded it and took out the front sight for an aluminum spacer. Then scoped it and said it was ok...can't verify if his "fix" was even needed...unless he would have left the front sight on and then tried...
But I'm thinking I will try my irons first amd foremost.
Got a big Ole scope off to the side wanting to get on the 2200 already though🤓

Iron sights were fine and would have happily used them, but at that time monster scopes were the goto....so I had one on...It's a gun that does look good with an oversize scope and not compromised by things like break barrel or tap loading arrangements getting in the way of the ocular bell....
I never encountered barrel wobble on either the 766, or the 2200.
Maybe there was a drop in quality from the early versions.

I'm taking her slow lol made sure she still.worked fine. 3 pumps. Dry fired once. Put a pump in her and set her back to rest. Want to let the new pieces "settle in".

Thanks! Now I got the itch to open more slingers😅🤪🤙
I hear you 👂 I just recently pulled the trigger spring from the 2289 (have mod it in the pass) again because I wasn't all that happy with it. I went ahead and cut a couple of coils off 😳 and played with the pulling/compressing of it and feel its better, however tomorrow will be the real test at the range🎯
