Crosman Black Friday sale for first hunting rifle

Hello all!

I am looking to get my first hunting rifle, and am looking at the crosman site.

noticed they have a nice 40% black friday sale going on on both the Diamondback .22 and Benjamin Akela.

Both are very different price points. I want a rifle for hunting squirrels, jackrabbits, birds, and the occasional nutria or raccoon. I think .22 would be best for me.

I have about 2 years or experience with plinking at .177 but never hunting.

Additionally I found a refurbished Diana Stormrider for $210, but for about $100 more I could get the Akela on sale.

Diamondback is attractive because it is cheap, and I like the Crosman brand, which is why Im consider two pf their guns.

more than anything, I want something very accurate at ranges of 40+ yards so I can hit good shots, resulting in humane kills. I am a bit clumsy, so short range hunting doesnt work well for me honestly hahaha. I dont think the diamondback is great at the distances I want, but maybe if I got it, it would force me to become a better and more sneaky hunter.

if spending the extra money for the Akela or even the stormrider is worth it, please let me know.

yes I know you need extra accessories for pcp rifles but for now I am just considering price of rifle because already have a pump.

any thoughts would be appreciated.

thanks!

If you want something with more power that is more accurate and will shoot farther, than you require, go with a PCP.

PCP's can also usually easily be tuned or modified to give more power if it is required. As they are tunable in velocity they can usually shoot a wider variety of pellets which these days, with the often limited availability of ammo, is a good thing.

If your distances are nearing 40 yards then you are close to the max of most springers and nitro piston guns, both in accuracy and power, for what you desire to do with them.

Nitro piston and springer guns are more difficult to tune up in power and are definitely harder to shoot when they are power tuned. Pellet choices are usually pretty limited with the springer style guns as they only shoot at one velocity. But once you find a pellet they like there are a few that can hold their own against the PCP accuracy wise to 40 or 50 yards. Very few can do better and then only with a very experienced shooter.

From what choices you’re talking about, I would get the Akela. I have one and it is definitely accurate enough out to 40 yards for hunting. It’s a good shooting gun Although for me it was just Matter of getting used to the bullpup configuration. It was my first ever bullpup And wasn’t that comfortable for me until I took the cheek riser off and raised the scope up.And don’t forget the five year warranty You get with it.
