Crosman Crosman Optimus

Okay, I know what the specs online say and what the Crosman claims on the box BUT, I am not interested in any of that. I want to know what the numbers are in the real world.
Although their advertised FPS in .177 is impressive (with alloy pellets) what are you guys actually seeing when you shoot one through your chronographs? And more importantly, how much power is that coming out to in FT/IBS. AND, what is giving more power? .177 or .22, even if .22 is moving at slower velocities?

Generally speaking those Chinese break barrels will generate around 14-15 FPE in .177 and 16-17 FPE in .22.

Velocity depends on weight of the pellet. Heavier pellets yield higher energy from the same power plant (more ‘efficient’) to a certain point.

Your best bet with that class of springer is likely 7.9-10.3 grains in .177 and 13.4-18 gr in .22.

I appreciate your reply, and I completely understand what you are saying. But my main question was not answered, so I'll rephrase it.
I get what Crosman is advertising, when it comes to FPE and FPS, and I get the advantages and disadvantages of .177 vs .22.
My main question is, what actual numbers are you guys seeing when you shoot a Crosman Optimus through your chronographs? Is quality control consistent enough to where everyone is getting roughly the same numbers or is it like most cheap air rifles where sometimes you get a good one and other times you get a lemon?

Hi, Jeremy,
Even quality rifles like Weirauch will vary from gun to gun, seals are sometimes nicked in the assembly process and the amount of factory lube may vary as well. The Optimus is produced in China to a price point so it is likely there will be some inconsistency. You might try a Google search or head over to the GTA forum where there is a lot more interest in the inexpensive Chinese rifles.
HTH,
John

Well, I don't own a Crosman Optimus, but I do own a Crosman Vantage NP which is basically the same rifle but with a gas piston power plant instead of the coil spring power source, I've owned my Vantage for going on four years now and it's always been a great shooter, I normally use domed or HP lead pellets in the 10.5 gr. weight range, the average velocity I get from my Vantage is about 825~860 fps. depending on the pellets used which equates to 16~17 FPE.
I have gotten faster velocity with lighter and lead free pellets but range and accuracy suffers.

This is the year 2024... I do not know anyone who does not do a basic Google search before posting on a forum. I did that already.
The reason I am posting here is because that Google search did not yield what I was looking for. Real results from real people. As for joining yet another forum elsewhere, that's not really the answer I was hoping for. I will consider it if all else fails, but I'm not that invested.
