Tuning crown 25. verses 22.cal accuracy

I also have a Mk II in 25. 700mm added carbon fiber stiffened and slug liner. My son printed me new spacers. Shooting JSB 34gn 950ish fps. It is one hole at 50 yards. It's a new rifle so I have not made any adjustments to settings. It shoots ZAN 35gn slugs well also. At 50yards it seems to like pellets better.

Currently working on a .22 cal FX tune for 100 yards, I found accuracy beyond 75 yards was very elusive. I have installed an FX Slug kit, and a 700mm Superior Heavy Liner and adjusted the hammer screw under the power wheel. I am finding the best results with a pellet: FX 18.1 gr at 1033 FPS and 22 g FX Hybrid Slugs at 930 FPS. Reg is set at 150 Bar, the Front wheel on medium, and Power Wheel at 13 and 18, respectively. I am getting close. I hope 160 Bar will bring the accuracy I am looking for at 100 yards. Currently FX slug group is around 2 inches. My goal is sub 1 inch which the Crown is capable of.

The question for the group is running the reg at 160 bar near the max pressure or should I look at swapping in a high-pressure Huma regulator?

In my MKII it is tuned for the JSB 34 grain pellet Right at around 900 FPS, I do have a 380mm 25 cal barrel that I am going to try on the MKI and set it up for 870-880 FPS and see how it shoots. And yes the 25.39 grain pellets. A super accurate pellet.

Copy. That’s some decent thump with the 34s, pesty3782. What are your settings?
I really just started using my MkII, with the 380 barrel, and began familiarizing myself with the FX Pocket Chronograph last night. The next time I shoot I look forward to seeing what my fps are. I have the Continuum, so the 700mm barrel is available too.
Yes, the 25.39 is the only pellet I have shot so far, and I have only used the gun on two or three occasions. I hope to do more this summer.

Thanks. David

Yes I saw you mention that somewhere in a post.
I look forward to your feedback.
I shot mine from the bench at 28 yards and the trigger was to light for me, going off before I was locked on. I still managed a 3/4" inch group, which is way better than my first two PCP aquasitions a .22 Beeman Chief2, and a .22 Gauntlet2. Two lousy shooters that motivated me to quit playing.

She’s purty, .20calguy. I am generally conservative and traditional, and that Yellowjacket is loud, but I like it! S7

Good morning Sanctify7
I was orginaly going for the Fx Impact, but being conservative myself I went for the Crown Mk 2, because it has some wood on it. I like walnut, but the Crown stock was plain and lack luster to me no real walnut character. Then a great deal on a used Yellow Jacket came along, but I missed that sale. That focused me on the laminate stock Crown Mk2, in any color. I found this one used, at Utah Airguns. I wasn't too hip on it being .30 cal, but I am liking it.

Greetings, .20calguy.

I want to answer this post point for point.
I liked the Impact also. But my reasons for not going with it were that it typically requires more maintenance than a Crown. I am not that handy, and the Mk3 is a sophisticated piece of kit, at least to me. I still like the Impact’s looks and did own a Dreamline Tactical for a very short period and was fine with it aesthetically.

I somewhat like every stock configuration of the Crown, and which is my favorite depends on what week I am in. I went with the synthetic stock due to its slightly less weight and price, and I caught a decent deal on a like-new one here on AGN. But, yes, the Walnut is a bit on the understated side. I can still easily handle it if the right deal and time came together, though.

I am just about sure I was checking out your Crown on Utah air. Then it was gone. Now I guess I know why and to whom it went. I was only loosely interested, so there were no substantial regrets.
And I do like the laminates—all of them—and the GRS too, but it is expensive and heavier. But if a great deal came along, it’s a possibility.

Last but not least, I have some questions on your MkII in .30.

1. How loud is the .30 cal? And how loud its it next to the .25 or .22? I am not concerned about impact noise, but noise at the muzzle and ear. And did you use a moderator?

2. What’s the barrel length? If you posted it, I cannot see it presently and am afraid I will lose this long post if I go back a page.

3. Clarify some things on the target group you posted, please. How many shots were aimed at the bullseye target? And those were all at 72 yards, right?

4. What specifically are you “liking” about the .30? I know this may be a basic question, and I know the .30 packs more punch and may be truer further out, but I am quite curious as I own a .177, .22, and .25, but have no precise idea about the .30 experience.

I am asking most of these questions because I am (loosely) considering a .30 and noise is my biggest concern.

Thank you! S7

What are your hammer, port, and reg settings, Epinephrine? I have these pellets but have not shot them yet.
Thanks. S7
The 34’s at that speed are with my 600mm barrel I use for competitions on my MKII, not the 380mm. I will have to look at settings when I get home.

It is my quietest rifle, comparing it to my Gauntlet2 or cheif2, nothing else I have is supressed. I quizzed my neighbor and he said he didn't here it. I shot my Sheridan and he said said that one sounds like a 22 rifle. Lol
That was ten shots at the bullseye. The miss was my second shot, and quite discouraging, but I stuck with it to the finish.
The .30's problem may wind up being trajectory, as I read someone on this forum say.
It took me about 22 clicks of up to go from 28, to 72, yards, for sight in.
I was shooting under a branch at about 40 yards which I hit when I moved to the upper right hand bullseye on my sight in target. I had about two inches clearance in my target view. I'm going to play with that, and make a trajectory table, and try to learn and understand my turret settings for ranges.
I've been watching the pro's and they know where to dial their turrets.
I should also mention that I'm using a range finder. It calculates your shoot angle, and range, so if you aim up hill at a target that is 100 yards, it may only say 80 yards in the RF, because it isn't telling you actual range, but the range that you need to compensate for.
My Crown is 600mm. What I like about it is a combination of the scope, and rifle. It is super smooth, and when I miss, the hole appears on the cross hair, where it was aiming. Lol
I need to work on my benchrest. My heart beat is about one MOA. Lol

I copy on the details.

I logged the .30 trajectory issue. I don't presently shoot over 50 yards, but it is still something to bear in mind.

What suppressor are you using? And what caliber is your Gauntlet? I have heard many different comments about which suppressor does 'this and that,' so I am curious.

And that group still looks good to me. You still got eight shots in a small hole at 72 yards, and the outlier was probably not the gun. Right? What size is that group without the outlier, if you don't mind? I am assuming the center dot of the target is about one inch, but that's a guess.

I don't know what you mean by the following: ". . . and when I miss, the hole appears on the cross hair, where it was aiming."

Thanks. S7

My Gauntlet 2 is stock, with the supressor it came with it, and is a .22 cal.
It is only, can quality accurate, so expecting more I sent it back. Umerex said it passes their accuracy test, with about 5/8" at sixty feet.I have pistol that will do that at 75 feet. So I fixed that problem with the Crown.
That group is measuring .45" center to center, excluding shot #2! Pun intended.
Lol
What I meant was, when I miss the shot goes right where it was pointed. Lol
My brain takes a picture when I pull the trigger, and have tendency to pull left when I have a bad follow through. I've drifted left and had the point of impact land right on the crosshairs.

Oh, that group is ten shots! There's nine in that hole, two in a couple of CO2 cartridges, and one in a shotgun hull, that departed to parts unknown.

I copy on the Gauntlet.
I now think I understand your comment: the gun is still accurate when you miss your intended POA. It does hit what you actually point at.
Yes, nine shots went in that hole. What I meant was, if the outlier was on shot two, the next consecutive eight shots went in the whole, with consecutive being the operative word for my idea. I am thinking of that as a group itself. Just a way of (favorably) reckoning things.
Good shooting, and it makes me feel good about the gun and the .30 cal.
Thanks, and enjoy.

Here's the shot string of that group.
Interestingly the last shot of ten went high in the group, and is higher in velocity, although I don't think that little extra velocity would have a 1/4" difference at 72 yards, and is likely happenstance. That is only 5fps difference.

hello I just bought a used 25. cal FX crown . My main intended use is punching paper at 50 yards with pellets . To those of you who have both 25. and 22. cal ,which do you find to give the best match grade accuracy ?
Sharp Pog,
I realized that I owe you a wee apology. I helped take your post in a different direction, got caught up in what I was conversing about, and then realized it. I am sorry for that. I hope you got enough of an answer to assist your concerns.

It is a not black and white answer. If you where shooting indoors, there would probably be no difference regarding caliber. And if you compared 4 random crowns, two in each caliber, it would be the one gun with the best tune, or barrel "lottery" which would win, not the caliber.
Tor47,
Thanks for putting this post back on track. I don’t know if this applies to you, but I am interested to hear from someone who has had multiple Crowns, liners, and/or calibers. S7
