Air Arms owners, 

I just got my AA S410 back today from being repaired(thank you David Slade). I have a new scope/rings I’ll be mounting in a couple of days. My question, is this a stop for the ring mount? If not, then do I need to do anything to it like tap it down flush with the top rail? Your input will be greatly appreciated.

Sportsmatch rings come with a pin like that for use on springers. It's not necessary for PCPs as they don't have the same recoil.

That is indeed a scope ring pin if your rings do not have a matching hole, then simply remove pin. In firearms its common use is recoil and alignment. In air rifles it probably serves more of an alignment purpose as the recoil is minimal. However it should be noted that most firearm receivers are steel and can take a higher torque setting on scope ring screws, vs. air guns which are generally and aluminum action.

If its not needed remove it, don't tap it down. If you manage to tap it down flush which I doubt is possible your just making it harder to remove later.

John, if that is a barrel detent pin, how do you remove it, after it is set? I've always seen the detent "lock" be a screw, but I've not seen a roll pin used before.
